Forums - Movies & TV - The Last Jedi debut under Rogue One numbers in Chinese box office

This isn't surprising at all. The Chinese never really got the Original Trilogy. Imagine, without any previous context whatsoever, that the first three Star Wars movies released are The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi. It'd be confusing as hell.

Bad reception where?
Funny thing is, even if TLJ makes like 1 million less than a previos modern Star Wars film, the "true fans" will come in screaming "See Disney?Your movie is failling!MUAHAHAHAHA", even if the movie already earned billions of dollars on the movie screening alone *sigh*

He's basing it on audience reception in sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

Those don’t have legitimate data though.  All you need is 200 users to post 0’s and the score dramatically drops.

Something...Something...Games...Something

It's already down significantly in the foreign markets, so it doesn't surprise me that China will follow suit. Oh, but maybe that's all because of "teh holidayz."

Considering tfa left with a bad taste, and now bad critics from fans for tlj, it was expected.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I swear Star Wars fans are like Final Fantasy fans, unpleasable.

Their is no pleasing these hardcore contrarian nerds they just want to hate it and will look for any small difference in sales or reviews to argue its not as good as the imaginary movie they had in their head.  Because like most things in life your fantasy will always fall short of your reality.  So instead of just enjoying it for what it is they will complain and whine and argue about the difference in this making 1.9999 billion vs 2 billion its so sad.

As expected , it's flopping in China, and even worse than expected. Debuted under R1; will probably end up under 50 millions.

It opened at 9.5 millions

Rogue one was 11 millions, and TFA 32 millions. It will struggle to reach 50 millions (TFA did 110)

Even so, it's ahead of Rogue One both worldwide and more importantly in the US where studios retain more of their profits. And it's not done yet.

It's not going to hit TFA levels of success, but that's understandable. TFA had a lot riding on its shoulders. It was the first SW film to continue from the OT. It was also the movie charged with washing away the bad taste left by the prequel trilogy.

I'd say it was successful in both which is why it was so huge. To me, TLJ is still the far superior film, and regardless of its predecessor's success, it's a bonafide blockbuster.
