Forums - Movies & TV - The Fans Have Spoken, Last Jedi Drops A Massive 68%

Watched The Last Jedi and I still enjoyed it. I wonder what the box office numbers are right now.

Around the Network

Thu numbers are in. TLJ did $1.68M. This is less than RO for the same day, which did $1.7M. Onto the weekend.

BOM expects TLJ to do $13M, which is a WOW drop of 45%, though they did leave room for it to be even steeper. If it does do only $13M, this would mean RO outperformed it by 3.7%. This would also put the DBO at $593.3M, and drop the amount it has been outperforming RO, outside of opening weekend, to 8%. After its 5th weekend until it left theaters, RO did $33.6M. If the 8% holds, TLJ would do $36.5M, bringing its final DBO to $629.8M. A drop of $306.9M, or 32.8%, from TFA. If the FBO percentage of 53% holds, than final WW numbers will be $1.34B WW. That's a $730M drop, or 35.3% down.

It's successful. 1.3 billion dollars. About .7 billion dollars less than episode 7.

Here's my issues with this movie.

How did the First order even manage to build an army that could rival the republic? According to the lore they were left overs from the empire and they hid in the outer rim. Somehow a bunch of clones with reduced intelligence designed to follow orders manage to build an massive army and develop advance technology that could rival rest of the galaxy. Makes absolutely no sense.

Snope is this powerful sith lord that was hiding in a corner during the rebels vs the empire and just out of nowhere shows up? I wanna know some backstory of this dude but nope he was just killed. Most likely he written because they needed a evil sith lord even though it made no sense. And by killing him off they don't haft to explain anything about Snope.

Why is luke skywalker this useless jedi that has gone total buhu over losing a pupil to the dark side? Because of this he is willing to let his sister die and the galaxy be taken by the first order. Makes no sense. Luke has great amount combat experience and is a skywalker, he should rival Master yoda and a sith emperor in power. But in this movie they made him completely useless.

Other problems with the movie I have but this is more subjective. I really hate exaggerated use of magic/the force. Lord of the rings and game of thrones got it right. Not this movie. Leia pulling herself back into a spaceship from space? Wierd connection between Kylo and rey? Luke using force projection planets away and suddenly dies.

This movie is clearly for casual viewers(MONEY) and spits on every star wars fans face. But DIsney will lose just like EA and their battlefront 2. Let's see how this hans solo film will do(it will fail).

6x master league achiever in starcraft2

Beaten Sigrun on God of war mode

Beaten DOOM ultra-nightmare with NO endless ammo-rune, 2x super shotgun and no decoys on ps4 pro.

1-0 against Grubby in Wc3 frozen throne ladder!!

Friday estimates are in. TLJ did $2.72M VS RO's $3.26M. If this holds up, TLJ will definitely finish lower than RO's 5th weekend. Though, it's looking like it could be worse than the 3.6% that RO was going to out perform it, as RO's 5th Fri is actually 19.7% above TLJ's. BOM expected TLJ to finish 5th this weekend, which is still possible if Sat and Sun see better rises than the competition. It currently sits at #7.

With these estimates that rate that TLJ has been outperforming RO, outside of opening weekend, has fallen to 8.2%.

I'm pretty sure Stormtroopers aren't clones anymore. Still, you're right. That's why the lack of explanation for their sudden dominance of the galaxy is inexcusable. Especially when you see how stupidly they handled the Rebel escape in the 2nd film.

Yep, the only reason that they put him in is they wanted to copy the Emperor/Vader dynamic from the OG trilogy. Which could have worked if they came up with a good origin. Instead, they came up with nothing. He's there to seem all powerful, but then go out like a bitch.

Luke's treatment has really been the main criticism at the film. Him being unsure of the Jedi could work, but you have to give him a good reason for being like that. Having him just turn his back on his family and friends AND hate the Jedi just because he's the one who fucked up, not anyone else, just doesn't cut it. It doesn't make sense considering that we know how Luke would really act in this situation. And definitely doesn't make sense that he went there to die alone, but then made a map to his exact location.

The ironic thing is Disney changed the tone and humor of this movie because they thought it would appeal to more people, but just lead to a massive decrease in revenue. My guess is the script just appealed to Kathleen Kennedy's SJW sensibilities, plus was packed with toy bait. And it could have a lasting effect on future movies, especially if they are going to try to pump out a SW movie, that's a poor ripoff of a Marvel film, every 6 months or so.

As for the Solo movie, Disney has no faith in it. They are putting it out there to die, releasing so close to Avengers: IW. I've read a few articles saying they expect it to flop. There's a reason we haven't got a trailer and it releases in just 4 months. And it apparently is going through a few more reshoots this close to release. That film is going to be a mess.

This will was huge dissapointment

Weekend estimates are in and TLJ didn't quite perform as well as BOM predicted. They were expecting a 5th place finish, with it doing $13.5M. It finished 6th with $11.3M, a WOW drop of 52.5%. This brings the DBO to $591.5M. At this point, TFA was at $852.3M. That's a decline of $260.8M, or 30.6%. FBO is now at $673.4M. At this point, TFA was at $1.01B. That's a decline of $336.6M, or 33.3%. WW now sits at $1.26B. At this point, TFA was at $1.86B. That's a decline of $600M, or 32.3%.

This weekend's numbers also mean that RO outperformed it by 19.5%. This brings the amount that TLJ has been outperforming RO, outside of opening weekend, down to 7.6%. From now until it left theaters, RO made $33.6M. If the 7.6% holds up, then TLJ will make $36.4M. This would bring the DBO final to $627.9M. This would be a final decline of $308.8M, or 33%. If the FBO percentage of 53.2% holds, then final WW numbers will be $1.34B. A decline of $730M, or 35.3%. It seems the trend is that performance gap between TLJ and RO is shrinking relatively quickly, while amount that FBO represents is slowly increasing.
