Cannibalizing the competition.

Rename thread to:

"Zelda is cannibalizing Sony!!" for ultimate results.

OT: Props Zelda, well done.

Glad to see it dominate. Rightfully so.

I wonder if it will get more than Witcher 3.

You really need to stop being offended every time someone says something about Nintendo that's not glowing praise.

I expanded on my post in another comment. What I meant was aggregations like this mean nothing because people should just pick a handful of reviewers that they trust and share their same values. Why you had to drag the completely unrelated TLOU2 into this I don't know.

Let's not pretend to not know what's up. If this was a Playstation game, you would not be in this thread. Besides, it's not being offended, it's a sarcastic response to a stupid stance to have (even with your elaborated explanation which doesn't even make sense). Even if you don't trust certain reviewers, how does that relate to the topic at hand, which is BotW dominating across the overwhelming majority of publications/reviewers? Why was this "friendly reminder" necessary?

Friendly reminder to myself. I mean I was hurting the most that BOTW didn't turn out as I hoped and I did get hyped up a bit more after the reviews were so positive, only to be crushed even more with disappointment. Same happened with SMO. So yeah, if anyone needs a friendly reminder to not get hyped up more by reviews it's me.

And I wouldn't be so sure about PS4 games. Next year we're gonna have GoW and TLOU2. Two games I'm very much looking forward to and definitely gonna buy. I'm already preparing myself for disappointment with GoW but I still have very high hopes for TLOU2. Let's see how this turns out and if I'm gonna be disappointed yet again.

Also, what doesn't make sense about picking a small number of reviewers you trust instead of blankly believing in aggregated scores of reviewers you don't even know?

I don't really need to second guess my own opinions. I don't regret buying any of those games. I would've bought them regardless of what anybody said about them. It's just kinda sad that those games turned out the way they did, but it's a good thing I bought and played them to know that.

As my last hope I was thinking about getting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to have at least something I can enjoy. I'm fairly confident that I'm gonna love the core of the game but I fear that there are definitely gonna be some outside factors that are gonna dampen my fun, so I'm still hesitant.

I guess you're right. I more so meant that I expected them to be a little bit better than they were, so I should have kept my expectations in check. Which is odd, because usually my expectations are incredibly low, or just standard.

Yeah. I think you'll like the combat of Xenoblade 2 . At least that's how it went with me. Bad story but decent characters. Great soundtrack. Decent exploration. Etc.

Yeah, those factors I already know I'm gonna like. After all I loved XBC1. I'm more concerned about problems that come with the platform it's forced on.

Such as? I mean there's the obvious fact that graphics will not be PS4 calibre, but you say you enjoyed the first one, and that had incredibly dated graphics when it came out.

Because there is something as general consensus. And with this overwhelming majority across media, general consensus tells us that BotW is the undisputed GotY of 2017. Because of that, I don't care about the very few contrarian opinions since A: the feelings about this game are generally positive instead on mixed and B: the small number of reviewers that I absolutely trust have been overwhelmingly positive as well.

I played the first one at Full HD 60fps on Dolphin. Which helped me to actually enjoy the game without any distractions. I don't mind low quality textures, I do mind blurry, jaggy messes at 20fps. We're not going to get a Switch emulator anytime soon and I really want to play it so I'm thinking about the plunge with the danger to be disappointed yet again.

edit: Just bought it. Should be here tomorrow. Let's see if I just flushed another 60€ down Nintendo's drain for a disappointment. I'm hoping against hope that the fact that graphics and performance is less important in XBC2 than in other games will help.

General consensus of opinion doesn't exist. Opinions aren't facts, so consensus doesn't mean squat. You say that your small group of reviewers you trust agree that it's a great game. Good for you, you obviously picked the right reviewers to trust. So what are we gonna do about the fact that the small group of reviewers I trust does not think BOTW is GOTY? Are we wrong for not following the "consensus"? Are we just stupid contrarians who defy to see the fact that BOTW is the greatest game? Probably not, because different people have different priorities. So what do I care what the "consensus" is when the consensus does not share my own priorities?

"General consensus of opinion doesn't exist. Opinions aren't facts, so consensus doesn't mean squat. You say that your small group of reviewers you trust agree that it's a great game."

LMAO it does. Otherwise why even have a GotY. You engaging in the argument already means that you in some form believe in choosing a GotY, which means absolutely, without a doubt, that consensus matters. And that's what it actually is, a collection of opinions. There is an agreement of opinion that this game is GotY to them. Those are democratic principles.

"Good for you, you obviously picked the right reviewers to trust. So what are we gonna do about the fact that the small group of reviewers I trust does not think BOTW is GOTY? Are we wrong for not following the "consensus"? Are we just stupid contrarians who defy to see the fact that BOTW is the greatest game?""

It's actually twofold. I follow the ones I absolutely trust, and I follow what the general consensus (in this case aggregates) to see what the general opinion of the game is. And after that, I do what reviewers are supposed to make you do, which is deciding if I want to purchase the game or not. That is why A: reviewers are absolutely important and B: consensus matters because I can't trust just any one reviewer since in the end it is subjective what they think of the game. Ergo, aggregates help in what the general opinion of the game is.

Now when it comes to negativity to said game, I tend to A: Ignore them (if I know that they have a clear bias) and B: look at what they have to say compared to the overwhelming majority that is positive about the game. They then better have a damned good reason for their contrarian stance. And you know what, it's FINE to have your own opinion on BotW, but DO NOT presume that your opinion has to be trusted the same why you don't trust other reviewers. You have the freedom to say your opinion, but that doesn't mean your opinion is always right. Any opinion can be challenged and put up for debate.

Well deserved.
