We can trust reviewers but only if its for our game of choice. So in this case reviewers are correct :P

It's generally a bad idea to trust more than a few specific reviewers you have chosen for yourself. No point in listening to reviewers who don't share your values and priorities even if their taste sometimes aligns by accident.

But yeah, it has been a pretty miserable year for me. Basically all of the games I looked forward to disappointed me deeply on some level and all for different reasons. And I really had a lot of games I was looking forward to :(

Next year should be a lot better though. Far Cry 5, Octopath and DQ11 should all be pretty good.

What games dissapointed you? Octopath is good going by the demo. Love the art style and ost so far. DQ11 ill try. Never played a dq before. Ironically my goat is a SE game from the 90s......so i should be more into SE games :p

Friendly reminder to not trust most reviewers.

..when a Nintendo game is getting critical acclaim.

Got it. So when Last of Us 2 hits, let's not believe the reviews. Especially if they're good.

You really need to stop being offended every time someone says something about Nintendo that's not glowing praise.

I expanded on my post in another comment. What I meant was aggregations like this mean nothing because people should just pick a handful of reviewers that they trust and share their same values. Why you had to drag the completely unrelated TLOU2 into this I don't know.

Games I really looked forward to were:

BOTW, ELEX, South Park, Super Mario Odyssey, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 5(delayed) and Nier. It's rare that I look forward to so many games in a single year. But all of them were severely lacking in one department or the other. I guess I'm gonna make a thread about this year at some point.

Yeah this year in general has had a lot of really good looking games that ended up falling short in one major department or another. I agree on that front. It just goes to show you to always second guess yourself I guess. I remember thinking this was like the best year ever in gaming but after some of the games I was most looking forward too I'm not so sure. It's weird too because I hadn't been hyped for any game in years. This year was just an anomaly.

What were your flaws with botw and smo? For me with botw at least it was the lack of proper dungeons and needed a better weapon system

Let's not pretend to not know what's up. If this was a Playstation game, you would not be in this thread. Besides, it's not being offended, it's a sarcastic response to a stupid stance to have (even with your elaborated explanation which doesn't even make sense). Even if you don't trust certain reviewers, how does that relate to the topic at hand, which is BotW dominating across the overwhelming majority of publications/reviewers? Why was this "friendly reminder" necessary?

I don't really need to second guess my own opinions. I don't regret buying any of those games. I would've bought them regardless of what anybody said about them. It's just kinda sad that those games turned out the way they did, but it's a good thing I bought and played them to know that.

As my last hope I was thinking about getting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to have at least something I can enjoy. I'm fairly confident that I'm gonna love the core of the game but I fear that there are definitely gonna be some outside factors that are gonna dampen my fun, so I'm still hesitant.

Cannibalizing the competition.

I guess you're right. I more so meant that I expected them to be a little bit better than they were, so I should have kept my expectations in check. Which is odd, because usually my expectations are incredibly low, or just standard.

Yeah. I think you'll like the combat of Xenoblade 2 . At least that's how it went with me. Bad story but decent characters. Great soundtrack. Decent exploration. Etc.
