Forums - Website Topics - How do you feel about the current state of VGC? - A Survey

Now, this is mainly a thread of personal interest, rather than an official VGC survey. However, after having discussions with others I am wondering what the state of VGC is according to the community here, and thus I have a few questions that I'd like to ask:

  1. When did you join the site, and what were your reasons for joining?
  2. How has your interest in VGChartz evolved as your time here has passed?
  3. How often do you frequent/check VGC? Which sections of the site do you visit most frequently?
  4. How do you feel about the community here? Is it better/poorer than when you first joined?
  5. How do you feel about the current changes/fixes/updates being made on VGC?
  6. Fill in any other information/thoughts/feedback/reception here
Thanks to all who post!! I'm curious to see what the results will be.

I don't like how when I go into a thread and I read a certain # of posts and then go back to the front page, it doesn't turn orange. I liked the old system better where it was like:

Not Read: Black
Read: Orange
Read the most recent post: Green

Apart from that, it's pretty good. Still want a mobile version and a dark theme.

1) 2008. Fuck if I know,I was bored?

2) Improved since it's less stingy staff and I can talk about using Ad-block now.

3) Daily and Sony/Nintendo forums.

4) Whatever,it's a gaming forum.

5) This site looks like 2008 ass and the logo is still flipping the bird. It just needs an overheaul entirely.

6) I would but I'm too lazy to care to put in more effort than this.

1. I first start visiting the site for the sales figures but I joined the site/community because of the forum.
2. I still like the same kind of games and stuff. I haven't changed much in that sense.
3. i check it a few times a day most of the week. I don't always post when I do. I sometimes take breaks from the site. It's getting a little boring sometimes.
4. I like it the community but I just wish it was alot more active.
5. It's about time we had some improvements. I love 'em though. Thanks, talon. The main change that I want is the option to change the theme to dark. The white screen bothers my eyes sometimes.
6. Drawing a blank here. I guess I put what I could have put here in the other parts.

1: A few months ago, I was feeling frustrated to see stuff people say, sometimes mild disagreements sometimes full-fledged BS so one day I was like, ok I need to be able to respond to at least some stuff people say...

2: It's gone from simply looking at the charts to discussing and interacting with people sometimes on issues totally unrelated to video games.

3: Hard to say as I don't keep a log of my comings and goings on VGC. But so far I'd say at least once a day. I could also at some point stop coming for several weeks then suddenly come back every day, I'm very unpredictable in that regard. And I have no specific section of choice, I just see a topic that gets my curiosity, I jump in, read, comment etc. No specific topic means more than any other to me.

4: Same as it was when I joined and I'm pretty sure same in 10 years if I'm still around and finally same as in pretty much every other forum. It's always a mix of all kinds of people one can think of. Good guys, bad guys, rotten ones with horrible ideas, peaceful ones that always see the positive of everything, bellicose ones that no matter what you say attack you cause what you just said is according to them obviously a provocation etc... It's the same elsewhere too.

5: I have no opinion as I don't see changes or fixes, I'm sure there are some in the background but nothing that makes the site appear different, at least not to me.

6: I got a few thoughts on the logic behind some moderation decisions, but I'll be honest, it's nothing that you don't see elsewhere. Wherever there is power, humans tend to abuse it and honestly it's definitely not (so far) that bad here, I've witnessed really abusive moderation elsewhere long ago so all in all it's not too bad over here, not perfect mind you but not bad

As for the rest, the site looks fine, changing the layout or colors or code does not appear fundamental to me. I tend to go by the say "if It ain't broke, don't fix it".

Someone knows how to use the list feature? I'm impressed!

    1. 2008, probably because of sales and interesting discussions. I can't say for sure though since it's been so long.
    2. I don't care about sales anymore since the numbers are always late and not considered very reliable. I think they're fine for giving a rough ballpark, but beyond that, I don't really trust them. As for discussions, they're still nice, but it's a lot quieter than it used to be, which isn't good.
    3. Several times a day. I visit the front page and access discussions from there using Hot Topics and VGChartz Buddy.
    4. I don't remember anymore. Almost ten years is a long time. That said, it's mostly pretty good, which is a huge compliment considering the low quality of discussions on many other sites.
    5. They're awesome! I only wish they could come sooner, but I understand people being busy with other stuff as well, or not having interest to use even more of their time on the site. I'm trying to say that I'm OK with waiting, as long as it doesn't become a Duke Nukem Forever.
    6. I like the moderation here. I haven't used a ton of forums, but it feels like it's spot-on here for the most part. Discussions tend to stay civil, which is either thanks to the users or the moderators, and considering the state of communities elsewhere, I've always attributed this to moderation. Keep up the good work, mods!

    Hopefully we get more responses

1.2014, was interested in hardware and software sales
    2. It's remained more or less the same, now that the hardware updates are slower, the forums are interesting
    3.many times a day
4.the community is more or less the same ,with more frequent users this year however
    5. The current updates are good,I especially like the subscribing feature.
Overall the past few months, the improvements have been great, great job guys :D

    1. Started lurking in...2013 maybe?

    2. Interest slows down as Reddit’s niche gaming community grows

    3. Go on a few times a week

    4. Community is worse since I joined, and I could easily list out some users - I’d probably be on the list

    5. I’m hoping it gets better. I enjoy this place and what it provides

    6. Safe to say some users on here are better off being permabanned. Who? Not for me to say, but I for sure would be one

    a yes
