Forums - Gaming Discussion - Soooo did the Xbox One X succeed?

Given that the console has been out over a month now and it has been beating the PS4 Pro in pretty much every comparison(not unexpected but still a huge benefit), has the Xbox One X landed with an explosion? Or a thud? We never did get proper sales statistics but what is your opinion? Is it a success for a $499 console?

PS I was talking to my brother about it the other day and it is $650AUS here in Australia, he mentioned how it was funny that the PS2 was about $750AUS when it launched 17 years ago lol. There has been a deflation of console prices it seems.

it sold less units during xmas compared to the psvr, so id say no.

Which time frame is "during xmas" exactly?

How many XBO X units were sold in that time frame? Worldwide or in a specific area?

How many PSVR units were sold in that time frame? Worldwide or in a specific area?

Can you explain how they managed to sell almost 50% of what PS4 sold if they "haven't been competitive"?

So your definition of competitive is being at 50%? Let me put it another way. In a race where there are 100 competitors you are saying that the person who comes 50th is putting the person who comes 1st under pressure and is a serious contender in that race?? Meaning they 50th person could have someone won the race??

I think our definitions of competitiveness differ. Now if Xbox One sales were within 1% of PS4 sales, then I'd 100% agree with you, but in which reality is 50% competitive?? Is this some kind of new "alternative facts"/Trump definition of competitive?

By definition competitive means you actually have a shot at taking the number 1 spot. As mentioned above, if you are within 1-5% of the leader. Short of Sony folding as a company this year, how will Microsoft reach the number 1 spot this console gen? I'm open to any suggestion you have on how they could do that. Bizarrely your username signature doesn't even predict MS coming anywhere close to Sony by the end of this year.

Last gen, Microsoft allowed Sony to snatch victory, but at the end of the gen, there was only 1 or 2 million consoles difference. That was Microsoft being competitive. This gen, they are soooooo far behind I personally can't see it happening and on top of that they aren't currently doing anything that would somehow change their long term fortunes.

This sales difference continues with the trend that Sony is pretty much outselling each Xbox One release at a rate of 2:1.

My comment was not about how competition was not important, we all know it is. My comment was that MS offers nothing and has not been competitive, sony can pretty much do what they want and disregard MS at this point because they offer nothing that would put sony or nintendo even close to think of them in any differently than the ouya.

Can you explain how they managed to sell almost 50% of what PS4 sold if they "haven't been competitive"?

Someone else perfectly answer that before me. I would just like to add that every console has its fan base that will buy it regardless. So the xbox will sell a certain amount no matter what. Not to mention now that there are 3 variants of the xbox, I would not be shock to learn that there would not be about 60-70% of the total sales as single gamers who double or even triple dipped. Dont get me wrong, the ps4 should be the same, just that I see the a difference in double dipping, I give the ps4 like 85-90% single users.

Where do you get the numbers for 11/24 - 12/24 for the Xbox One X sales and the PSVR sales? Sources?

You have a strange definition of being competitive. So Nintendo which sold 12 million consoles against 20m+ PS4s is not competitive as well it seems. In my opinion being competitive means that your rivals pay attention to what you do and don't act like you are no threat to them. Right now for me it doesn't look like Sony ignores Xbox so they are being competitive. Not being competitive is something like every console manufacturer was during PS2 era

Both consoles have pretty much the same single user base at least active single user base which buys games. On this site there is a hardware total page which show software attach ratio and it is almost equal for bit Xbox One and PS4.

But the thing is that the switch sold that cuz it was all that was produced, would there be ore switches, it could have done some damage. The switch has games to look forward to this year which excite gamers, the switch is a different playing experience. So a bunch of things ps4 does not have or cant do. So they can be competitive by offering different things and different ways to play. The xbox is a carbon copy of the ps4, but the ps4 has a huge list of games not playable elsewhere, and not just quantity but better quality than the xbox. The only benefit of the xbox is that the x is a bit stronger than the pro, but more expensive. Its a no brainer that the ps4 has no competition from the xbox. it will show in sales next year, as the xbox has peak in 2017 while the ps4 will probably e up in 2018.
