There...fixed that for you.

*Checks top ten sold playstation games this year*

Yeah, playstation gamers buy mostly exclusives /s

Hell, PUBG alone outsold most if not all playstation exclusive games this year on xbox alone and that game had less than a month.

Pubg will come to the PS4 too so what? Its just a phenomen right now, xbone fans are starving for "exclusivs" it still didnt moved any units it seems. I dont have any respect for these number because once again ms put them self in a made nest, while Sony bringing a new ip after another.

A game that early in progress with so many bugs and real bad performance sells so much on xbox is speaking for it self, that desperated and starving xbox fans ( ask my self everyday why they still have some after the whole xbone fiasco ) are ready to buy anything as long its a exclusive, while obviously only  the preview edition is exclusiv lol. Another pr spin aka lie from ms smh...

There are about 70 million ps4 owners out there and yet there is only 1 exclusive (not including previous generation games) that sold over 5 million. That's it. Don't tell me playstation owners are all about their exclusives.

Dude PUBG is a mess on PC, but still sold over 30 million copies, you're argument is invalid

Doesn’t it even matter at this point, after Xbox one X successor, PS5 pro will be up next and so on. If MS will only rely on people who switch to the most powerful every couple years they will never have a permanent audience.

Are you implying that Microsoft will not release a next-gen console at around the same time as Sony? And not have the most powerful hardware?

Snoopy said:

This generation it took a while before we stopped supporting 360/ps3 games. The gap in power between xbox one x and ps5 will be about 3 years. Hell, they are supporting the switch right now with way weaker hardware.

The Switch is a special case, because although it has weak hardware, from a hardware feature set perspective it has allot in common with the Xbox One and Playstation 4. (In-fact, beats them in a few areas.)
So porting to the Switch is a crap ton easier than say... Taking a modern engine and trying to force it to work on the Wii U's dated VLIW GPU architecture.

The launch was ok'ish but to be honest no one is talking about the x anymore, and it wont become better during 2018.

Yeah but Microsoft said they don't even expect it to outsell the S.

So.. I mean, it's not supposed to light the world on fire.

It's meant to be a Halo product.
And by having the best hardware on the market, then developers/publishers are more likely to use the Xbox One X to show their games off, which helps build brand recognition.
The Xbox brand is already being shown in a better light thanks to outlets like Digital Foundry.

They have been nothing but a failure this entire gen. Even at the beginning when they where never ahead, they tried implementing more shitty practices like drm and no used games and mandatory kinect. Consumers responded adequately and now they are selling like garbage in comparison to he ps4.

What kind of failure?

Because from a financial perspective, Xbox has been a success for Microsoft. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to win a console generation to be successful.
Last generation with the Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, all consoles sold like 80+million units, they were all a resounding success.

Sony deserves the resounding support they got with the Playstation 4, no one is denying that, but that doesn't mean the Xbox was a failure.

In the first years, when they had to build up brand recognition. Since the middleof the 360-years, the Xbox segment is profitable. So why should they throw it away now when Xbox is an established home console and gaming brand?

Even if they don't have the most popular home console. Their mere existence in console space helps Sony and Nintendo not to get too cocky. I don't understand why some people wish less competition for the market leaders.

How are they being competitive? They have been nothing but a failure this entire gen. Even at the beginning when they where never ahead, they tried implementing more shitty practices like drm and no used games and mandatory kinect. Consumers responded adequately and now they are selling like garbage in comparison to he ps4.

Aside from their shitty practices, one would think they pump out good software to try and win gamerd back, or change the view on the company but again, no they have had a lousy software output as well. They keep relying on the same 3 tired franchises, a bunch of tiny games, any new games they try that doesn't sell gangbuster they abandon instead of expanding on it, and they have cancelled multiple ips and studios. Third parties don't want to work with them cuz they try to force ideas like multiplayer on scalebound.

The only real advancement they seem to be going for is games as services which are some of the worst games in history. And I'm so glad this year people had enough and microtransactions reached a limit which will put a big damper on games as service.

Please tell me how the xbox has been competitive this gen. and please don't say something useless like its got a 4k bluray player, or its got useless features unrelated to gaming or the stupid its got a better online experience.

You, perhaps unintentionally, explained why competition is important. If MS was left in the market by itself they would have likely succeeded with pushing DRM, mandatory Kinect, and probably so much more. Hence why competition from Sony (particularly Sony since they seem to be in very direct competition), Nintendo, and digital platforms like Valve's Steam has been useful because it provided consumers with choice and sent a strong message to MS (hence the 180 turnaround with many of the things they wanted to do with the One). Similarly, Sony, Nintendo, Valve and any other company should not be left alone because they will more than likely end up abusing their monopoly position. I am not going to predict if MS is going to stay in the hardware race or not (that will depend on how well Xbox is doing and how much it corresponds with the company's vision in the consumer space and gaming going forward), but I will say that more competition is a good thing because users will have choice and the Xbox's existence has contributed to that. Just as with Sony, Nintendo, Valve etc., I hope MS stays in the game and continues to provide competition.

My comment was not about how competition was not important, we all know it is. My comment was that MS offers nothing and has not been competitive, sony can pretty much do what they want and disregard MS at this point because they offer nothing that would put sony or nintendo even close to think of them in any differently than the ouya.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

depends what your criteria is.

If your criteria is taking sales from Sony than it is too early to tell. If your critieria is just sales than it seems to be fine, but I believe a vast majoritity of its sales are to people who already owned an XB1. So if I had to guess it is failing at actually expanding the userbase.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Almost every Game on PC is a mess so it is a valid point. And its still a lot better on pc your argument is invalid

Did you only read the headline?

The Xbox hardware ain't profitable, but royalties of each sold Xbox game and Xbox Live Gold subscriptions make it profitable.

And as much as all most of us want Microsoft to put more effort/money in their first party games... even without them Xbox One gamers have more than enough good games to play: http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/xboxone?sort=desc

30 million consoles (and growing) seem to be a "good enough" hardware base to get almost every third party developer and publisher to release their games on that platform... so the Xbox platform would probably survive even without further first party support.

With prices for an Xbox One S below €150 at sales and a huge game selection with Xbox Pass for a few bucks each month and many cheap Xbox games, an Xbox is a viable gaming option.
