Given that the console has been out over a month now and it has been beating the PS4 Pro in pretty much every comparison (not unexpected but still a huge benefit)

Congrats, great way to start a flamewar.

Now, to rain into your parade, here are a few numbers (from an apparently trustworthy resetera source). The X sold 430k in November in NA (making up roughly two thirds of ww sales), the Pro sold 260k in comparison. PS4 sales in NA make up about a third of ww sales, so we can guess ww sales of the Pro at around 780k (probably even higher, as MC reported high sales of Pros in Japanrecently). Solidly BEATING ww sales of the X, even in its launch month. That simple calculation would shoot down your pet theory. Now how's that for starting a flamewar?

Lol the last Microsoft console I owned was in 2007 which was a 360, I sold it to get a PS3. I own every mainline Sony console except for the PSP and Pro and have over 70 PS4 games. I have 3 OLED Vitas. Chill out, I was stating fact, not inciting 'flame wars'.

Tbh I don't think he is trying to start one.But did the pro really out sold d X in it's first month WW?Surprising if true.

I think sales are front loaded. I can see many of those sales as an upgrade by existing XB1S customers who are getting gimpy third party games (720p and 900P are some examples). I can see my self upgrading if I was in there shoe and having enough money to pay 499$ for an upgraded console.

I guess it depends on people’s definition. I’m sure it sold very well, but with the way it was marketed, I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of its purchasers were people who already own 1 or more XB1 consoles, meaning that even with high sales numbers it didn’t contribute much to expanding the player base. Just my theory, but I could be wrong.

On the other hand, we already know it didn’t sell more in NPD, and there’s nowhere else it could’ve possibly sold more than PS4. Calling it a failure is a stretch, but based off that info, its not really a success either; I figure for it to be a success, it should’ve at least turned the sales tides in the US. It still could I guess, but I somehow doubt this console will gain more traction than it had in its first month, at least not till next year.

From what is being seen by DF and such though, that new machine isn't a 4k/60fps device either, there must be a point when people hold off a purchase beyond the promise of what it can do by the people aiming to sell it.

Buy a X1 for 1080p/60 get 720/900p/30fps

Buy an X1X for 4k... get a solid 1080p machine.

The thing is.... the machine is great for what it does, but it doesn't have the power to do what it was advertised as having, with "no compromises" it was just never built as such.

Look at the Switch.... what resolution and frame rate did Nintendo promise? absolutely none, the machine was shipped on a video of people jumping about on a rooftop playing games or on a plane chilling out with games.... you know what I've done with my Switch.... well it's been on a plane several times, no rooftops yet... maybe if one of my plane trips goes wrong lol, but yeah the machine was hyped for what it is capable of doing and it does really well, the X1 and X are both sold on a promise they can't really live up to.

(naturally there are games which run at 4k/60fps, but they're not the norm on the machine and the ones which have a selectable setting for 4k/60 come with compromises, if you are going to point to the handful of 4k/60 games and suggest that's the machines norm then I'd wager the PS2 was a damn good 1080i console over it's whole library... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_alternate_display_modes those 5 games really were trend setters!)

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

The console is doing fine, sales don't make the console any better. In Australia the console is a bargain price considering PS1, PS2, PS3, and 360 were heavily overpriced.

Nope.
It was made to further improve Microsoft's market position. It did not.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I don't think so. there is not much selling incentives for the XONEX besides more resolution. At least PS4Pro counts with 1st party exclusives which are the only reason i own a PS4 since I play all multiplats on PC.

Was it advertised as a 4K/60 fps machine with no compromises? I can't remember that promise.

It was advertised as

  • the most powerful console so far (what it is... most multi-platform games look and/or perform better than on PS4 Pro)
  • the best suited console for 4K TVs (which is also correct, every resolution above 1920x1080 looks better in 4K, not only native 4K)
  • with native 4K support for some games (neither all games nor the majority of XBO games were promised for native 4K)

It was outsold in XBox's strongest territory during its launch month by a PS4 discount.
Probably doing worse WW, with diminished base model sales
