Forums - Gaming Discussion - Soooo did the Xbox One X succeed?

Given that the console has been out over a month now and it has been beating the PS4 Pro in pretty much every comparison(not unexpected but still a huge benefit), has the Xbox One X landed with an explosion? Or a thud? We never did get proper sales statistics but what is your opinion? Is it a success for a $499 console?

PS I was talking to my brother about it the other day and it is $650AUS here in Australia, he mentioned how it was funny that the PS2 was about $750AUS when it launched 17 years ago lol. There has been a deflation of console prices it seems.

I'm sure it's doing fine.

Succes on this site is determined by forum posters own agenda especially on vgchartz. So imagine some sales numbers and laugh/love/hate on them.

No it doesnt, there are plenty of games where someone might choose the PS4 Pro versions dueto having a better framerate like on Project Cars or Evil WIthin 2

To early to tell. It seems to be off to a decent start. Not exactly a 4K console, but better than the Pro. I am happy that Microsoft sems committed to delivering a native 4K option in all MGS titles. As I mentioned in another thread, a few people have asked when PS5 is coming out now that the new Xbox is out. So Microsoft has definitely made some people believe it is next gen, which I think will help it maintain decent sales through next year.

I hope it can sell well enough to give Sony and Microsoft confidence to keep doing hardware refreshes at the fab shinks. I like having the option of getting a smaller and quiter unit, or a unit that takes advantage of the shrink to offer better performance. This is a lot better than not having the option, as has been the case in the past.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. 430k opening in the US for Nov. That's not bad. About what I expected. We'll see how it goes after the holiday. It's a waiting game to see if it has legs.

Way too early to tell. I expect them to drop the price early next year in order to keep momentum. 150,- is just too much of a gap and VR and Sony‘s blockbusters will make the Pro sell better next year. From a technical standpoint the X1X seems impressive on the GPU side of things but unbalanced as a whole. The CPU seems underpowered for the bigger data sizes it needs to shuffle around which leads to a worse performance than on PS4 Pro in a considerable amount of games. In case developers start to use the enhanced Vega chipset features like half-floats on the Pro, that the 1X is missing, this could have an impact as well. FarCry 5 is rumoured to do so. We‘ll see and wait if third parties outside Sony will make use of it.

Congrats, great way to start a flamewar.

Now, to rain into your parade, here are a few numbers (from an apparently trustworthy resetera source). The X sold 430k in November in NA (making up roughly two thirds of ww sales), the Pro sold 260k in comparison. PS4 sales in NA make up about a third of ww sales, so we can guess ww sales of the Pro at around 780k (probably even higher, as MC reported high sales of Pros in Japanrecently). Solidly BEATING ww sales of the X, even in its launch month. That simple calculation would shoot down your pet theory. Now how's that for starting a flamewar?

On the games front yes. Lots of games are getting upgrades that make them 4K or very close to 4K and better textures etc.
Sales front yes it's selling well but I expect sales to slow down.

Very true indeed. People easily seem to forget that U.S. =! The world and I'd say X1+X1X not being able to beat PS4 at launch month even there, doesn't bode considerably well for the future of the console. I'd also wager 430K (including pre-orders!) doesn't seem too impressive in comparison to the 260K the Pro was doing (granted they had pretty amazing deals at Gamestop + Amazon). I also expect Sony to increase their marketing on Pro & PSVR during the upcoming year.
