It didn't really succeed, but I mean it wasn't a failure either. It is a remake, I can't imagine it had a high development cost and it released on the end of the 3DS's life cycle, it could also still sell a bit more down the line.

At least it won a Game of The Year Award though.

Well it didn't really flop but it didn't set the sales chart on fire either. I feel like when Nintendo is deciding whether or not to make another 2d Metroid they'll take note that basically everything released on the 3ds this year kinda bombed

Their mistake, in my opinion, was to not release a version for the Switch, much like FE Warriors.Even a franchise as requested as Metroid got buried under the hype that was the Switch and the simple fact that evryone is "tired" of the 3DS.Even if some awesome game were to release on it now, bar very few exceptions, it would sell below expectations, because no one wants to go back to play it.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I'd say it's a success in illustrating the shrinking software market of the 3DS to Nintendo.

What really constitutes a bomb on the 3ds, though? It's an old, well-known system to develop for, and you don't even need to throw any high-res textures at it. Probably didn't cost much to make.

Would have been at 500k, I probably would agree, but right now, it is below the expectation of everybody who tried to predict it 3 months ago.

The slow and almost abrupt death of the 3DS certainly didn't help but I won't immediately pray for 2D sequel if I were you.

I know this is unbelievably obnoxious, but slow and abrupt are complete opposites in meaning...

As for Samus Returns, I can't imagine Nintendo was expecting massive numbers...

Considering how quickly consumers embraced the Switch and forgot about the 3DS, I'm sure they weren't blindsided by underwhelming sales...

Have a nice day...

If you say it failed, then I guess Metroid really is dead. -_-

If they cancel MP4 people will get pissed, I don't see them doing that.

Not a success, but it isn't a failure either.

Nintendo should've made this a cross-generational game. They've done some stuff like that in the past.

I voted no, because it is below the expectation people had of it. I don’t think it was a failure either. I like the direction of the game. My main reason for not purchasing it is that I don’t play 3DS anymore since my Switch has replaced it as my handheld. My 3DS joins my Vita as a bedside only system.

If it were on Switch, I would have bought it.
