I have to ask, but is Disney fringing on a monopoly? I know it technically isn't because competition, but it's getting to that point.

Quite ironic considering that Pixar warned us against the monopoly (Buy N Large) in Wall-E.

This is disgusting. Horrible day for the creative media industry.

Agreed.

Don't forget that they also own Maker Studios (now Disney Digital Network). So in addition to distributing five of the top ten movies this year (and having a major hand in one distributed by Sony), Disney also owns many of the YouTubers who are hyping you up to see these movies.

A pop-culture wasteland of completely disposable content.

Yup. We're dangerously close to having the same company both dictating what content to consume and producing said content. :-/

Disney is such a monster company now.I honestly kind of hoped that the deal didnt went through, simply because its not healthy for one company to have so much power, even one that I love like Disney.

I was hoping for it to fall through too, probably more so, because I'm not a fan of Disney. The only things they have made that I went out of mt way to watch for most of my life are the 2 latest Star Wars movies, and the Star Wars: Rebels tv show, which, is inferior to the Clone Wars in every measurable way.

This is disgusting. Horrible day for the creative media industry. But hey at least we get to see some superheroes share the screen for a few minutes.

Feel pretty much exactly the same way.

Disney are getting so big, we may eventually see them create their own military.

Terrible news. Really bad for the competition in the industry. Disney has managed to become more valuable than any of its competitors by stripping all of their movies of creativity and only thinking about how a certain movie can fit into a bigger franchise. 10 years ago the 6 'big' hollywood studios had about equal market share, now Disney is in the lead by a huge margin and has bought one of the others.
Even though I didn't particularly like the X-Men franchise, I still highly preferred it to MCU, at least there was a decent movie occasionally, with some creative ideas. Now it will just be part of the generic MCU franchise.

In general I think the world needs to change; capitalism, which has benefited society a lot in the past, is beginning to be a burden. Fewer and fewer companies own more and more, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Disney will soon own everything related to entertainment and world wide web.

They need all that sweet Star Wars money to pay for all of this. Jesus, Marvel, LucasFilms and Fox in less than ten years. Will the hunger never stop?

WHOA! Disney owns one of the biggest religions in the world? Amazing :)! Even more so to be happy lol.

The Biggest.

Meh, there are so many different movies and companies. Each year new ones come and new ones go. The biggest news here is the whole Hulu acquisition I think..

You try telling devout Catholics that they are the same faith as reformist LDS and see how that goes. :P

Hmm, pie.

It is monopolizing though, Disney is pulling further and further ahead.

Only worry I have is the smaller FOX studios like Searchlight who might get lost in the transition

I have other concerns too, but this is one of them.

It could mean great things for X-Men and Fantastic Four, and also means we may see that 4K "original" original trilogy release for Star Wars now.

I don't see this ending in a healthy competition ... like at all !

Can't believe there were people supporting this kind of monopolistic transaction because of their little MCU. You know that it doesn't mean automatically better quality content for the franchises that they just bought, right ?

I was also wondering how seemingly no one else is concerned about this.

Disney purchase Star Wars and Marvel to get the young male audience, with those 2 franchises they basically have toys sorted. But that 4bil and 2bil respectively and they've already no doubt made back their money. This deal is nothing compared to hose, was this deal just to get a non market leading streaming service? A service not even established outside the US? Yet if it means they limit their work to this service.

Hmm, pie.
