Forums - Gaming Discussion - "The Nintendo Switch Is Selling Exactly As Fast As Sony's PS4" - Forbes

Yes, Switch will KILL the PS4! 18 12.95%

No, PS4 will remain champion! 74 53.24%

Hard to tell right now, time will only tell. 47 33.81%

The PS4 is already dead. It has a high install base but very few of them are actively buying games and are the equivalent of inactive subscribers on twitter or YouTube. Most havnt purchased a game in years. I had a PS4 shortly after launch and it's covered in dust and completely disused, I may as well entomb it at this point. But the switch is my constant companion and faithful friend.

People saying it will sell sub 50 million is pretty laughable. 10 million in 9 months and that's without their highest selling franchises like Smash, Pokemon, and a new Mario Kart. The Switch has decent 3rd party support early and more devs jumping on board. They made good hardware this round with excellent marketing. The ads are Sonyesqe. I don't think it will do Wii or DS numbers but it can do 3DS at worst numbers. 2018 3rd parties are filling some gaps, normally that type of thing is reserved for Sony consoles or Nintendo handhelds. Since Switch both, it's doing well there. Saying 50 or less honestly sounds moronic and what I remember people saying within Wii's first year.

I don't think it will completely close the gap with PS4, but I'm quite sure that if Ninty will produce enough units and won't kill it early, it will reach huge numbers. Wii doesn't look out of reach, it sold more than 100M despite it was killed too early, and other consoles managed to outsell it, and even PS3 and XB360, competing with Wii and with Sony and MS being so clumsy with them, sold more than 85M, so with Ninty clearly trying to do its best with NS, 100M don't look unreachable. But unless PS4 sales suddenly plummet, closing the existing gap would take more than the time Ninty is willing to keep even a successful generation alive.

Don't say that loud, I learned in VGC that Nintendo didn't kill Wii early, that the sales had declined too much AND THEN Nintendo started to shift dev time to WiiU.

Sure sure, the records in SW sales must be some kind of allucination

Smash was on Wii U and also Mario Kart and we saw how much it helped the wii u. lol And the switch already has 5 of they're biggest franchises in its first 9 months, and even if its bought more as an handheld than a console ( because we all know its just a shitty console specs wise ) it didnt manage to sell the 10 millions faster than the ps4 without any real big or good games. 50 Millions isnt a given, and all are saying this are laughable and overstimate the franchises nintendo has. And tell me again about that 3rd party support, almost every new game that get announced lately doesnt come to the switch, just old ports in they're worst form lol.

We should not forget that Nintendo is very greedy, so switch sales alone wont satisfied them for long, and when they announce a new handheld device ( maybe with switch games working ) the Switch will be dead sooner than later

In 2010 nintendo reduced software launch for wii and sales plummet in 2011. It`s clear the Wii aproach is not aproved for everyone in Nintendo. And Gamecube games like, Metroid Other M and Zelda 2011, failed in move more units.

I highly doubt Nintendo's going to make a new handheld device anytime soon considering the Switch is doing well so far and Game Freak making a new Pokemon game for the Switch.

When they do not have the intention to bring a new handheld, then the switch has a good chance to sell over 50 million units, but only in a scenario without a new handheld. And only because 70% will buy and use the switch as an handheld anyway.
