Yeah, I think that's likely (but not certain). By the time the Switch has it's one year anniversary it will be behind the PS4 by a couple million units. Considering that Playstations are typically famously long lived while Nintendo systems are famously front loaded, It's hard to imagine the Switch selling better in the end when it's behind early on.

Actually, by the one-year-anniversary Switch might be ahead, because of the holidays. Shortly after PS4 gets it's second holidays.

Is that called outselling tho? The PS4 is already ahead of the Switch, it's not gonna "outsell" it, it's just gonna keep ahead

Ah well, I dunno.

But it will be close for some time. It looks like with the holidays Switch will pull ahead, until PS4 has it's second holidays.

i dont know how ps4 will sell but switch will surpass Nintendo DS

So you think the Switch will do better than both the PS2 and the DS.....well that is just WOW....now THAT is a bold prediction....unless you meant 3DS

I was literally coming to say that lol. Like outsell may be the wrong word. And While I agree with the OP that the PS4 will have more units lifetime I also know that anything is possible so it is not for certain.

What a difference the 3 makes. From an outstanding bold prediction to... yeah, seems likely.

I know anything is possible. I just think at this point it seems possible that long term the PS4 will win this.

I think all the info is already there fr us to see. And unless something drastic happens the PS4 will be the clear winner here.

They are pretty much tied in NA. Selling about the same, whoever wins NA is anyones guess, but it wouldn't end up being by a margin that gives the other a clear global advantage.

The NS hasgot Japan on lock. And typically outsells the PS4 at around 2:1 and in outliner cases 4:1. There is a but though....

We now have EU, which is a much much bigger market than Japan and is sony land. PS4 usually taes EU by around 3:1. The issue for switch is that the EU market size means that a win for the PS4 there not only negates the NS win in japan, but it also gives the PS4 a significant boost.

So long story short, unless the NS can match or surpass PS4 sales in EU, it doesn't stand a chance to sell as much as the PS4 much less surpass it.

I don't know...the Switch has 12 weeks left of it's first year. In the last 12 weeks of its first year the PS4 sold 4 million units. The Switch would need to outpace the rest of it's life so far which included it's launch and it's first November. That's going to be a big ask for 3 weeks in December and then January/February 2018...

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Is not a bold prediction for sure

I referenced two threads above. This is launched alike the movement so far:

As you can see Switch moves above 3DS and can also match the new momentum of the 3DS post-pricecut (the pricecut is visible). Switch also launched around the same time, will enter the holidays around the same time. As you can see with the holidays boost the 3DS pulls ahead. It seems unlikely the Switch will not do that, even if the holiday-boost isn't that big for it.

The Switch isn't going to sell like the PS4 unless it manages to capture a wider audience like the DS and Wii did. The meat and potatoes of the gaming audience is covered by the PS4 and X1 (PS4 having the significant slice of the pie), this is why the PS4 is selling like it is. Nintendo lost that market after the SNES.

It seems the core audience that buys 12 million Marios and 15 million Pokemons are mostly within the first 30 million console purchases. That's why Mario 64 sold similar to Mario Galaxy on a console that sold 1/3 the amount of the Wii. So I doubt Nintendos staples are going to take the Switch leaps and bounds above the 3DS solely based on Mario/Smash/Zelda/Pokemon. It's likely other things like positive mindshare and novelty factor that will take it above the 3DS into more around GBA territory (80-85 million).

So yeah, I think 130 million PS4's is feasible, it's actually worth taking into consideration. 74 million by January 2018, another 18-20 million that year taking it to 92-94 million by 2019. For all we know 2018 might be the peak year and it could do 22 million+.
