There is one group of people: People who want to play games. You haven't grasped what I said when I meant, they are competing for someone's gaming time. It is completely logical for Sony to be concerned with this.

So with PlayStation selling 17.2m units since January 1st this will be their highest selling year by far. The same year the Switch has launched strongly. I think I'll maintain my stance that the Switch and the PS4 are not in competition for sales.

It would be weird if it didn't, but there is no indication that it couldn't sell higher otherwise. But that's not the point, they are both sold in game stores and similarly compete when it comes to software. A gamer is typically going to buy a console and invest in that platform that year. That is literally what the guy said afterwards about their services. They are competing in software as well.

Only nintendo can get away with a handheld. Sony shit the bed with shitty memory cards and shit supply as well as short term support. If sony can "learn" anything it is not to use overpriced memory cards and actually support the device with games and supply. Yes I am salty on sony handhelds....

I hardly ever saw the vita on store shelves and had to buy mine used as i could not find them anywhere and this is when it was about a year old or so. The only love for sony is the playstation as it is the only thing they seem to really backup. nintendo is making something like 2 million switches a month now and its everywhere. Nintnedo might not do much right or things that make sense, but they know games and how to make the best experience for a handheld system. That has been true for over a decade with all the gameboy versions all the way to 3ds so they have had alot of experience.

As far as a paid online system, I am not paying for that unless it can at least do save game cloud backup, without that its useless to me. Sony has at least done that much.

Didn't even knew PSVita was sold out, where were the party?

And you seem to forgot all the complaint about lack of support for 3DS and WiiU, besides Nintendo leaving the last year or 2 on their platforms barren to prepare to the new one.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I really hope Sony stays away from the hybrid model. Hybrid means compromise with a higher base cost and I'm not interested in that. Instead, I would prefer that they hold off on a portable model until technology improves enough that a portable can play the entire Playstation catalog.

The Turbo Express from 1990 would like to have a word with you.

Except it wasn't able to hook up to the TV nor have a prot ofr two playe ron the TV. It's was a seperate system to play TG game sonthe go where Nomad was a hybrid.

True it lacked TV out but it didn't launch after the system was "dead" like the Nomad.

As great as that would be, is it even possible?

uhm probl. A less powerfull version of the jaguar chip made in 5-8nm could be capable of running ps4 games at a lower resolution with not to much enegry drain.

Well they obviously haven't effected each other at all......since PS4 has been having it's best year ever and still outselling both Nintendo and MS

Are they looking at expanding the PlayStation platform? The best way to get people continuously paying for content through your devices, is to give them access to your OS and Storefront 24/7, in any situation.

You don't need a PS-OS to have 24/7 access to the Storefront. With the PlayStation app for iOS and Android several billion people can have 24/7 access to the PS Store, if they want that. I just "bought" the monthly PS+ games on my iPad and a PSVR demo on my Android phone... and even installed them remotely on my PS4, PS3 and Vita.

The Switch on the other hand doesn't have access to its Storefront 24/7 in any situation. If there ain't an open WLAN around, you are offline. The Nintendo Online app for iOS & Android doesn't include eShop access either. The only way would be opening a WiFi hotspot with your additional mobile device.

Sony has already begun showing a touch of hubris with their ongoing refusal to allow cross-platform online play (which makes perfect sense, mind you)... I'm curious to see over the coming year if they keep a clear head on their shoulders or become too overconfident.

The main issue is that shareholders always want to hear your plan for increasing profits even when they've grown enormously already, and it often leads companies to embark on policies or services that aren't particularly consumer friendly (just look at EA for instance). Just about every time a company has dominated the video game industry they eventually overestimated their brand's draw and made a serious error. Being the leader is an oddly difficult place to be at times lol

I think the fact that the PS4 came out years ago makes a big difference there. If they were both brand new we'd probably see more competition, but I'd wager a huge portion of the people buying up the Switches (myself included) already have a PS4.
