Benefits are pointless if you can't give people the right tools to get out of a shit hole. They have lived like that for generations, they need more people intervention to help break a cycle.

it is no different to generational dole bludgers i guess.

And they’ve lived as a hunters/gatherers society for far longer. At what point do tax payers stop being the ones paying for them and they start standing on their own legs?

That is why I said benefits are pointless. It is a cheap way for governments to sweep problems under the carpet. They should be encouraged through educational tools to skill up to get jobs.

You are right they need to stand on their own legs but when you got 3 generations of relatives above you living in the same house telling you otherwise it is hard to break that cycle mentally. Sample principle applies with generational dole bludgers. Hell i seen some make fun of relatives that got out of the cycle calling them black sheep of the family lol.

On a personal note, I am overjoyed with this news. It's been a long time coming.

I myself am straight, but I have several close friends and family who are gay/lesbian/bi, and it's always seemed so unfair to me that these lovely, kind people who pay their taxes and contribute to their communities didn't get to have the same rights as me. This means so much to them, and seeing them so happy makes me happy too.

Yes! I was overjoyed by the amount of support we got. I thought it would be much closer.

Yeah I admit I was worried for a while there too. Such a relief though to see the Yes side win comfortably.

What took you so long Australia?

Religious conservatives were holding the country back.
The Australian Christian Lobby even threatened our Government that they will campaign against them at the next election if they didn't bend to their will.

Great news, though it's crazy that so many people oppose same sex marriage. Step out of the 19th century, damn it!

There was a massive campaign during the postal survey... The no camp were using issues not-related to same-sex marriage to scare people into voting no.
https://www.conservatives.org.au/voteno_material

And that is only the start... Some far-right groups were conflating homosexuality to AIDS and Pedophilia...

I dunno. Do we have a higher average IQ? I would need to see a paper on that.

And sure. I'll make baby's. *Grabs a turkey baster*

I know that, which is even worse, killing someone because of sexuality sounds like something totally archaic

To think Australia used to have the death penalty... And Homosexuality was reason enough for it.
Glad I was born after that era.

Shouldn't have needed a vote to begin with. $122 million is a ton of money when the Government has been screeching we are broke and thus making cutbacks to Health, Education, Infrastructure, Welfare and so on.

Margaret Court be must delighted!.

Yes I agree Pemalite! But people (The NOs) will probably want a voting system to prove that Australia is against it (what they think)
