Forums - General Discussion - Report: Disney closing in on acquisition deal for 21st Century Fox...

Geez that's one way to get movie rights. Just buy the entire company!

Hope so. 99% of Fox's Marvel movies are atrocious!

Looking forward to a real X-men and FF movie from Disney,

...and then looking forward to a proper Marvel vs Capcom game. Bring on the remasters too!!

X-Men should be rebooted, maybe Fantastic 4 can have an actually good film, and possibly a Simpsons Disney Pixar 3D animated movie? The possibilities!

I'm mainly looking at this from a video game perspective, hopefully this means that there will be a MvC that isn't purposefully butchered next time.

I want a silver surfer movie. And not that trash fantastic four movie where he guest stared.

This is actually slightly worrying.

Beyond the majority of people who only seem to care about their favorite cape-wearing characters now sharing screen time together, this acquisition could prove to further reduce the amount of creative risks taken in an industry which has been increasingly criticized for lacking new ideas. Look at Disney's release schedule (sequels ahoy!) and the clout a move like this gives them over film, particularly in the blockbuster space. What becomes of existing franchises that aren't exactly Disney friendly?

I don't mind Disney getting the lost Marvel IPs they don't have. As shown by WB recent inconsistency I think Disney is the best hands for X-Men and Fantastic 4. I do worry about them getting control over the rest of Fox. Disney is already OP and it would create a situation where they are too powerful.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I don't think Disney should expand to this size. I want to see variety in franchises such as Alien, Avatar, etc. Giving Disney control of $60 billion worth of assets would get them one step closer to becoming a monopoly. I don't see any reason why Disney would stop at 20th Century Fox tbh. They could easily acquire Paramount and Sony to eliminate competition. I don't think a market where only 3 companies (Disney, WB, Universal) compete is viable for the consumer or the movie business in general. Consumers will get less variety in movies and production companies will spread themselves out too thin on large franchises. This will result in lower quality movies that see less revenue... not to mention the fact that Disney could end up releasing their movies so close to each other that they effectively cannibalize their own sales. Disney should just buy the Fantastic Four and leave everything else to Fox.

So would it not be 20th century Fox anymore? I love their intro to movies. Would be sad.

Owning X-men and Fantastic 4 means that Marvel Studios will be able to keep the Cinematic Universe going for another 30 years. Also basically owing Hulu is big plus because they want to launch their own streaming service.
