Not really sure I understand this last part.  But my main point is that for me I don't like when games go "mature" because I feel like the gaming audience (because of the entry age) is more vulnerable than a typical movie audience.  I also think it's one thing to see a character do something and another entirely to take part in that action.  Every child is different and some are better at separating reality from fantasy.  Personally I think that things you watch in movies though they may be obviously fake still send information subconsciously to your brain that creates the impression that you really witnessed (or commited in terms of gameplay) the act being seen.  It's subconscious, mind you, but it's difficult to measure the impact this has on a developing brain.  As an adult I still look away from violent scenes.  I don't need to see that. I don't need to be desensitized to ultraviolence.

Ok, I honestly don't care about any of what you just said, but that's me personally. I think Retro Studios doing a mature game would be cool.

Also that's not the word I meant to use I meant to say, steering away too much, or rather avoiding mature themes

Aha..you meant diverging.  And no..diverging away from "mature" would not be "low brow."  It would be self censoring or being a prude (I'll fit nicely into that latter category).

Yep the word came to me in the shower(no joke)

And yeah I guess I agree .. really depends on the situation I guess.

Other - Xeno

It’s the only series I could see being mature. Fire Emblem potentially, but I think an M-rating would be more because of something cringy than good. I say Xeno, but am thinking a more serious game like Xenogears or Xenosaga; games that are more focused on mature themes. Adding an m-rating to a game like Xenoblade 1 or 2 would probably mean the addition of something beyond tacky; like Pura nip slips or something. But if Takahashi went back to something more serious like Xenogears, it would be a great fit due to the more mature subject matter and themes; dealing with more mature drama, romantic relationships, mental illness, and sexuality.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

As people said, it would be silly to make a m-rated game just for the sake of it, but one thing I'm sure: I'd like Metroid to go a bit more horror/scary, like the first Prime, but more than it. So that would certainly make the rating go up, but not necessarily make it M-Rated.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Action game starring Peach, Daisy and Rosalina

Eh, i disagree. I don't think an M rating should be explicitly targeted, but sometimes 'tasteful' isn't enough. Half the fun of Django Unchained (a movie yes, but it applies to the story/message part of the discussion) is how it revels in its own violent absurdity. That quality is a big part of why people like Tarantino in general :p

There are two types of people who like Tarantino movies: those who like the dialogue and absurdity...and those who just like seeing people get scalped.  I hope you're in the first category.  Unfortunately when you sell a product primarily to kids the kids will want to watch (or play) someone getting scalped (or doing the scalping) for no other reason than that it is "cool."

I can't say i'm personally there explicitly to see violence outside of the amusing frame Tarantino uses to present it, but who cares if some people are? Even ignoring your oversimplification, shaming people for having a fascination with violence, sex, etc, doesn't accomplish much, and the former group alone justifies the existence of Django in its current form. You might find it distasteful (and that's fine), but that doesn't mean others can't appreciate the value something unpleasant can add to the experience.

I'm not going to discuss the general 'think of the children' angle. I think it largely just deflects responsibility away from parents, so we'll inevitably end up going round in circles until one of us gets bored :p

Eternal darkness is one i can think off top of my head? Zelda could potentially cross over to an M rating.
