Forums - Sports Discussion - Russia banned from 2018 Winter Olympics

This decision is an insult to Russia and its proud people. The upcoming Winter Olympics will be a watered down event without the best country, Russia competing.

Basically they can't. I'm 100% sure that no one will go there. Because Russian government will definitely boycott the 2018 olympics after this.

But can't the individual athletes still compete? Especially if they don't live in Russia.

Of course they can. But the government will probably “advise” them not to go there.

How exactly do you boycott something you have been forbidden to do?

No broadcasts, no coverage of Olympic games, no participation under Olympic flag etc. Just like it was with Eurovision 2017.

If they have no athletes then the broadcast will be very minimum anyway, still international chain will have it for the ones that want to see. And if they have no representation why would they have their flag there?

The boycott threat seems more like out of piss and little impact.

last time Russia won the most gold medals in Winter Olympics was in 1994. Using total medal count they are 2nd.

I approve.

And I like that they still allow innocent Russians to participate because I would feel sorry if they couldn't due to their fellow athletes doping up.

He was just implying that others should probably be banned as well. We all know other countries are doing it as well, especially the highest competitive ones. They’re just not stupid enough to let them officially being caught. (Even though the article states otherwise)

It is the definition of whataboutism. It is exactly what Russian trolls do every single time. This is just going to be put away as another western conspiracy when they got caught with their pants down and refuse to take any responsibility. The only Russian that took responsibility fled with his life. Why is that? Because Russia tends to assassinate people like him. Another strong contrast with other countries.

What does to have an unbiased and objective opinion on the matter have to do with Russian trolls?! Please do you hear yourself?!

Lol...Hardly the best if they need to cheat in order to win. (It's not like we all don't know they've been doing this since USSR times. (and many other countries including the US as well))

The only insult to Russian people here is that the Russian state ordered it first hand!

Yeah, they were 4th last time....WITH doping. Only slightly ahead of Germany and...hold it...the Netherlands! lol
