Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo Switch is a monster at my Best Buy , always selling out

I work at a Best Buy in a very upscale part of Chicago near downtown area.  And I remember back in October when I learned about our Black Friday/Holiday deals and upon observing it I told my co workers that Nintendo was making a huge mistake not slicing the price of the Switch or even bundling it with a free game.. boy was I wrong!  On Black Friday it sold like crazy but it came in second place only because PS4 was priced at 199$ (crazy deal by Sony).   But now that the PS4 is back up to 299$   we mostly sell the Switches and hardly any Xboxes.. and maybe a few PS4 Pro's here and there. Like today for example we sold at least 15 Nintendo Switches and this was on a Sunday (Fridays and Saturdays are a lot busier).

My coworkers and I are completely puzzled by this.. don't get me wrong i think it's a fantastic console.. but considering the fact that it has ZERO deals right now one would expect it to lag behind the other two respective consoles.

If this continues on after the Holidays I am fairly certain that we will see tons and tons of 3rd party support for the Switch.
What do you think caused such huge demand for the Switch?  is it the portability ? the games?

I trust no one, not even myself.

Anecdotal as this may be, still a good sign for the Switch. The Switch is doing well on Amazon too.

I blame the Switch reveal trailer: does an incredible job of illustrating that the Switch is a 2-in-1 device.

Both. For me the portability doesn’t even matter, but there are 4 must play games for me already and once Octopath Traveler is out, I won’t be able to withstand anymore...and I didn’t have a Nintendo console since the N64.

The deal is that it is in stock and there is compelling software. Think snes classic. Last time it was in stock 2 days ago, i had it in my cart. Went out of stock in all of 17 seconds.

Sucks for me. @#$% you reggie.

It's always out on Amazon US as well. (despite it being sold out, it's still in the top 5... just wow.)

I think it's selling because of the premise of the device, 2 of the greatest games ever crafted by man released in the same year, it's relatively cheap (except. when compared to the 199 PS4) and it was just marketed really well. Whoever Nintendo hired for Wii U marketing must have been fired because the marketing Switch is getting is amazing. I actually see commercials for it on normal TV stations. I gave Nintendo shit with the Wii U, but they really have turned themselves around with Switch.

It still baffles me that it's selling the way it is without discounts or pack ins. That means that profit is going right back in their pockets. Good time to be them I guess.

I honestly could see this beating Wii.

That is great to hear. Nintendo just did almost everything right.
- A unified platform which means more games and better support.
- Great Marketing
- Great Games

Pocky Lover Boy!

Good to hear. Going to be interesting to see how well it sells this holiday. But numbers should be great.

Keep bringing the games. The Wii was amazing except for the controls. It has fantastic games, but the controller imo blew.

There is no more $199 PS4  (well, maybe someday...)

However, don't forget there is still a $189 xbox one s until the end of the month.  That seems like the best priced option.

Nintendo often has a larger hardware boost from the holidays without a sale price compared to the boost the other consoles receive without discounts. Ongoing good sales of the switch compared to the PS4 isn't the least bit surprising to me, but I am surprised the xbox one s with it's ongoing discount price isn't doing a lot better than the PS4 at this time of year.
