Forums - Gaming Discussion - Potential replacement for E.A on the Star Wars I.P

No one it go to a 1st party dev. Too much money to be made for Disney. Star Wars games will end up on as many platforms as possible.

I think this is Disney's plan down the road if they can make something economically feasible. They'll pull a "Netflix" deal on them where they sign a contract with a game company to make money in the interim while they plan on ways to make it in-house for less by the time the contract expires.

If EA has a decade to work with, so does Disney. By the end of it they'll have something ready to go themselves, and you probably won't see this kind of deal again.

LucasArts...

... wait, what do you mean Disney basically shut them and all of their infastructure down for no reason? I guess licencing off Star Wars is a better deal than making it yourself and keeping all the profits.

Hmm, pie.

The people that made Rouge Squadron 2 should form up and it should go exclusively to them.

Best would be to give the IP to different studios and publishers, depending on the best pitch.

Say, a stylish action game from Platinum, an RPG from Obsidian, EA can continue its Battlefront and Respawn's game, someone could revive 1313 or do something similar

etc

So, assuming that Disney does in fact yank the thing over Battlefront 2....where could it go after that that's a good fit?

Or where would they go to create a really funny reaction. I admit part of me wondering what happens if it turns out that, say, Retro Studios new hiring is for a Star Wars game.

"Yes, we at Nintendo now have exclusive access to Star Wars games for ten years. The force is with those with a Switch."

....Very unlikely, but I the reaction would be hilarious.

Nintendo cant afford the Star Wars license, they have the money but wont fork out that much for it, neither would Disney give it out to them. The SW IP, especially considering how long the deal is, prolly cost EA at least half a billion.

Sony of course

After Disney Infinity started dropping in profit, they closed down the studio. Nowadays, i think it only exists to keep the license of older games controlled.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Maybe EA decided to go overboard with the loot boxes to pay for all that licenses in the first place. I can't imagine they came cheap.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

When does the current deal with EA expire?

Signature goes here!

Ea only made 2 AAA and canceled 1 Star wars games in 10 years. What i wish for Disney to do is give the license to several companies, but to forced them to do a specific genre. Give the license to 2K for a XCOM kind of game or a Bioshock game. Maybe a metroidvania game?

Why should only one company get the license? With so many different types of game experiences out there, there should really be at least a couple of capable companies with the allowance.

The problem with this is that, currently, Disney does not care about videogames. After they closed down Disney Interactie and LucasArts, they've been just licensing their brands to the highest bidder. Marvel games nowadays are just mobile titles or licensed stuff like Lego. The same with their classic properties. Star Wars has a better potential for the regular gaming market, and even then they just rented the IP to the highest bidder. As long as they can get profits with the least amount of efford, they are happy.

Isn't there a AAA Marvel game being made by Square?
