Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch Killer App?

What is the Nintendo Switch's biggest system seller?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild 42 60.87%

Splatoon 2 4 5.80%

ARMS 0 0%

Mario Kart 8 DX 2 2.90%

Super Mario Odyssey 21 30.43%

Total:69

Depends on the region. Zelda in North America, with Spla2n killing it in Japan.  Mario Kart more evenly spread.  As for Europe, probably nothing since the Switch isn’t doing very well over there. Too early to tell for SMO.

BotW isn't a killer app for Switch because it's also on Wii U. Same with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It could be considered a Nintendo killer app but you're stretching what  a killer app is by assigning it as a Switch  killer app.

It'd have to be between Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, and ARMS.

And let's be real, it's not going to be ARMS or Splatoon 2.

If it is selling Switches, it is a killer app. Per definition. So BOTW surely is. Yes, it is on WiiU too. Still people bought a Switch and the game instead of getting it for WiiU. So it sells Switches.

Mario Kart is usually rounding up the library, although it does sell consoles on it's own, but in this case I think it is less of a system-seller, but still a seller. Arms seems to have lower sales and might not a killer app. But Splatoon for sure is at least in Japan. No doubt about it. Mario Odyssey is surely one too.

I also would add Skyrim and Xenoblade. Both probably sell the console to some people.

Overall I doubt Switch has only one killer app. It has multiple. Which is a reason for it's success.
