If it sells 1 million, would it considered a success?

Best guess for "X" LT was 910k. I'm not sure that type of growth would be considered a full on success. Maybe not a failure...

That brings us to an interesting point: how many copies does this game have to move for Nintendo to be happy with its growth? I'm honestly hoping that it moves X's lifetime numbers before December is up. That would be significant to me, as the Switch has a much longer life ahead of it.

So, while waiting for the game arriving by tomorrow, do you think that we will see another xenoblade on the Switch? I think that could be possible.

I'm sure we'll get another Monolith game, at the very least. I also think it's possible that we'll see another developer brought on to port XCX to the Switch. Even Monolith's President likes the idea.

That would be really awesome! Especially if they fix the UI issues on XCX, that to me would improve the experience by a huge amount.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I agree with this post. However Xenoblade X and Xenoblade 2 are the best direct comparisons but it is close enough. I will interested on how this game sells. Hopefully over 1 million. Then again I haven't played the game.yet so maybe I should wait to see if it deserves such a number

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Xenoblade games didn‘t exactly set Japan on fire:

It will be interesting to see if XC2 can surpass the first game in Japan. Should be doable.

They had actual marketing this time, so it will be interesting to watch. I believe it can sell more than 200K in Japan. But who knows.

UK sales are about 30% higher than X, and double that of the original. Digital adoption should be up on both previous entries, as well.

Nintendo platforms have always underperformed in the UK, so it will be interesting to see the Japanese numbers on Wednesday.

100k+ seems like a lock at this point.

So, Japanese first week sales are out! 97,732 for Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

By comparison, the first game sold 79,163 and "X" sold 88.544 in their respective first weeks. Do you think this sort of growth has Nintendo excited, or were they hoping for more?

Also, what do we think about Nintendo shipping more units of Switch last week vs. launch week of their "Holiday" game?

They'll be happy with that growth as it shows the series on an upward climb, many JRPG series outside of DQ and FF started out slow and had gradual growth to become significant franchises..

I imagine they are probably satisfied. Not only is it higher, but we have a whole month of holiday season.

But I also believe that Xenoblade 2 will have more digital sales than the other two games. Not only is digital becoming more popular in general, but the Switch system itself lends itself to tempting more to purchase digitally. It's nice to always have all your games on your portable at all times.

So the fact that the game sold like 10k more than its predecessors for launch week only counting retail is a good sign.

Will be interesting to follow, it has more chance for growth than the last two, since those came out on the last legs of their respective systems.
