You scared me, I thought you meant this site had a data breach.
It ain't gonna stop.
Data is just too valuable.
Think of it like large quantities of oil being left in the open.
People are just going to take it.
It's no more going to stop than physical thievery. Every countermeasure will eventually be countered and require a new countermeasure. It's a never ending dogfight, not a war that can be won.
It's now a part of our lives.
It won't stop. Too much to gain by stealing data and too many companies with improper focus on data security.
Best option is to use different passwords and ensure you are saving data with a company that they actually need.

What are people gonna steal from this website? The users' shitty political views, or the charts that are over eight weeks behind?
If the net neutrality disintegration happens, expect a lot more data breaches.
Yeah they are annoying, but luckily I didn't use any product that has been data breached so far. And I rarely use anything important online.
Data breaches won't stop because they are based on greed and human error, two things that we will never get rid of. The only thing we can do is pass legislation to hold companies accountable and give them motivation to reduce the risk of breaches.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
