"Anyone thinking that the Switch and the PS4 are not stealing sales from one another is just being delusional. There are people out there in the world, or in this case Japan, that are choosing between the two. If both didn't exist, they would get the one that did. But since they both exist, some people are choosing one or the other". Point is simple, PS4 sales in some way would probably be better in Japan also like in rest world where PS4 is notcible YOY up, if Switch isnt so much popular in Japan.

How exactly thats make my argument invalid, fact that 1st party games are best selling Switch games doesn't mean that they are selling only to Nintendo fans. Offocurse that great and incredibly popular games like Zelda BotW, MK8D, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey can be bouth and buy people that are not Nintendo fans. Like I wrote, you can buy Switch for Zelda BotW, MK8D, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey even if you are not Nintendo fan because of great reception (I mean Zelda BotW and Mario Odyssey are one best critically acclaimed games ever, MK8D is one of best MK game ever and Splatoon is strongest new IP in Japan) and popularity of those games, huge Switch popularity and hype in Japan, or portability of Switch, and Switch is also home console in same time like PS4, can easily affect someone to choose Switch instead of PS4. We already seeing plenty of people that saying that Switch is their first Nintendo console in long time (in couple of generations) or even first Nintendo console ever.

The problem in your argument is you cannot accept that the 2 can co-exist.
At the moment they don't share the same library. Even with the future releases it's still different. MHW is just a month away do you think Switch  will steal sales from those people who are anticipating it?
And there's a reason I see 2018 as the real test because that is the time where 3RD party devs from Japan will start to release games for the Switch be it exclusive or mulit plat from the PS4.

You are also ignoring sales trend just take a look at the sales trend in 2015, and 2016. You are also ignoring the climate of home console in Japan. 2014 is horrible.

See the trend? PS4 is ranging from 20K-32K from 2015-2017. PS4 is selling like PS4 if you follow the trend. 2015 and 2016 Switch is non existent but the sales are still the same. There are spikes if there are notable games that being released.
Just looking at Q4 2016 it's very massive in terms of releases, price cut, games.  PS4 2017 Q4 is weak compared to q4 2016.
The only week it's up was when GTS was released. It's possible to be up again on Week 49 with MHW LE PS4 pro, MHW beta, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Kamen rider, EDF5 and dead Rising 4 but after that it's unlikely for PS4 to be up again.

So Is this really the case of Switch stealing sales from the PS4 or  is it just PS4 doesn't have a strong Q4 and sales are reflecting it? because historically speaking and the sales trend from the previous years even without the Switch it will still sell the same.

For the 2nd part. I misread sorry but you cannot really blame me.
"Point that Switch are buying only Nintendo fans in Japan is wrong."
It's really hard for me to understand that one.

Of Course that 2-3 or more consoles can co-exist on market, but problem with you is that you think they dont effect on sales of each other, of course they affect. They don't need to share same library to effect on each sales, yes they are different, but fact is that most people during one year will buy one console only and in this case they will choose between two consoles and that wasnt case last year in Japan. Like I wrote, "there are people out there in the world, or in this case Japan, that are choosing between the two. If both didn't exist, they would get the one that did. But since they both exist, some people are choosing one or the other".  PS4 sales in some way would probably be better in Japan also like in rest world where PS4 is notcible YOY up, if Switch isnt so much popular in Japan, PS4 sales evre year in Japan are better compared to previous like in rest of world only this year in Japan there is chance that PS4 will not be up YOY. Imagine some parent or young man that are not Nintendo fans and want to buy new console in Japan, they can easily choose Switch over PS4 because Switch is so damn popular in Japan and everywhere wants it and they heard that last Zelda and Mario Odyssey are one best games ever and that Splatoon is also very fun and popular game, so its not hard to imagine that some of them will buy Switch instead of PS4 in that case.

For 2nd part, its simple, I expalined you why Switch is selling also to people that are not Nintendo fans. We already seeing plenty of people that saying that Switch is their first Nintendo console in long time (in couple of generations) or even first Nintendo console ever.

That point would actually hold zone wait except for the fact that the west received many more titles suited to them this Q4 then Japan. Also unlike Japan the west had some crazy price promotions. $199 BF ps4 for example.

Again it would be weird if the west wasn't up YOY in Q4 and Japan wasn't down.

PS4 was well ahead YOY in rest of world even before BF deals and you very well aware of that, west regularly receives more titles that are more suited to them than they are suited for Japan. And again, last few weeks sales are basically same around 25k, even we getting closer to holiday season, that doesn't have anything with last year sales.

I am fully aware of that. But guess what you should be aware of? Up until Q4 ps4 sales in Japan were up a lot YOY in Japan just like the rest of the world.

Playstation hasn't gotten holiday bumps for no reasons in Japan since at lease the PS2 days. It needs price cuts, revisions, big software titles to actually get a boost in  November. You know this.

The problem here is you can't back up your point with data. It's all about speculation on your part but if  you look at the data that I presented currently they don't because data dictates that PS4 is selling like PS4 before even without the Switch.
It's funny you still ignore the massive Q4 for the PS4  last year and claiming that it doesn't have any effect on why PS4 is down YOY and using that as a factor on why Switch is stealing sales from PS4 and using the sales from the west? BF had massive deals $199 is always the sweet spot especially in the west. Lot's of bundles but how about Japan in comparison? Are there deals, is there a new revision. Does it have notable games that will appeal to Japan?

Week 44- 47 2016 COD, Dragonball Xenoverse, Atelier, PS4 Pro launch,  fate game, SD gundam VS week 44-47 COD, .Hack, NFS, star wars battle front, Physical copy of free Hatsune miku game with all the paid content. Now tell me. Which is more appealing in your eyes if you are a Japanese gamer? YOY is not a great indicator to prove your point. Also, let's also not ignore that PS4 is still up YTD at the moment.

At bold. You are acting that PS4 is the only hardware available last year and acting that Switch and PS4 is only the available hardware in Japan this year. Also fact?? Can you please provide me data that most people buy only one console a year in Japan?
Here's the thing there are 20 Million 3DS user that wants to upgrade to Switch we cannot deny the fact that portability is a big factor. Are you insinuating that these user are choosing between PS4 and Switch? There's no PS4 on that equation. Those people never plan on buying a PS4 to begin with. All they want is a Switch.

Just for the record I am just saying that at the moment Switch is not Stealing sales from the PS4 because there is none to steal. At the moment the appeal of Switch is it's 1st party games. In the future obviously it will when big 3rd party games start releasing on Switch.
For example in August 3DS was able to steal sales from PS4 because of DQXI and vice versa.

Talking about Q4 of this year specifically, Switch start to receiving much bigger shipments in Q4 compared to previous months, so much more people is able to buy console. Even PS4 has holiday bumps even they are definatly smaller to Nintendo ones offcourse, and last 3 weeks for PS4 are basicly same around 25k.

Nothing he wrote don't go against anything what I wrote, we can't know how much PS4 would be sell this year without Switch on market, of course that sales would be better then they are even buy little margin in worst case.

But your data dont prove anuting, fact is that there is good chanche that PS4 will be below or flat to last year sales in Japan, while on evre other market while be notcible up YOY is prove alone. PS4 had massive Q4 last year in other markets too, before this year last year was best PS4 on evre market. PS4 was notcible up YOY on west even before BF deals on west. West always have more sutible games than PS4 in Japan in any case, for each quarter.

PS4 was only available home console last year (Switch is also home console in same time), Wii U was dying and in huge decline, so effectively PS4 was only home console on market. Of Course that most people are buying only one gaming device per year, actually good number of them buying just one gaming devaice per generation.

Of Course that some part of 3DS owners want to upgrade to Switch even Switch is much more expensive than 3DS and majority of 3DS sales were when 3DS was around $150>. But I dont talking about those users or Nintendo fans, you have new users, ex Vita, PS3, Wii U...point that you want to made that just Nintendo fans are buying Switch is totaly wrong.

Switch definitely started affecting on PS4 sales, and that will be most obvious during holiday season because huge Switch popularity and because fact that Nintendo consoles always have better holiday seasons compared to Sony consoles (of course that most people buying one console during holiday season). Again, I explained to you that point that 1st party games are most popular on Switch doesnt mean that they are selling just to Nintendo fans. We already seeing plenty of people that saying that Switch is their first Nintendo console in long time (in couple of generations) or even first Nintendo console ever.

Around the Network

Lol he just ignores facts again. Conical. Japan was up like the rest of the world for Q1/Q2/Q3. Switch releasing has no negative impact.

A serious lack of software appealing to the Japanese has affected Q4. And there are no hardware revisions or price cut to artificially boost October and November this year. But yeah keep ignoring these facts. You are still yet to directly comment on these points. Laughable.

Selling 20k a week for this time of the year is bad, no amount of spin will change that.

This.

End of discussion.

Think for yourself, question authority

I guess we will probably find out tomorrow when Switch sells 5-10x better than PS4, regardles that I expecting more threads that "proves" how PS4 sales are amazing in Japan, how Switch dont effects on PS4 sales in Japan, and how much important is Japan market for Sony.

Who's fault is that? Because besides third parties, I can think of another answer
