That's a simplified way to look into it. An other branch may bring a small margin of profit or even make a loss but that asset can increase profit in the primary branch. Spidarman the movie can be a financial failure and some would cry that Sony should close the Sony studios but the spiderman license can also be used for gaming that increase profits by a huge margin that makes it worth having their movie branch.

It pays off since Nintendo rarely give discounts or price cuts on there software and hardware. Instead all we hear is how well something has sold instead of realizing that sales mean nothing if your not making much profit in return.
