Black Friday has been quite heavily pushed in the UK over the last few years. Some retailers are still pretty sceptical (they feel it's just concentrating sales rather than creating a worthwhile number of new ones), but it does exist and it does result in a significant week on week rise of console sales. |
The bolded is probably to a certain degree true (at least in the sense that the increased volume of sales is countered by an at least equivalent decrease in margins). However as a retailer, if you don't participate in Black Friday, your competitors will get those sales, and they will be shifted from your own store to your competitors. So even though it doesn't create new (profitable) sales, it can shift marketshare.
