Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Beat Previous Black Friday Weeks Except 2013 (UK)

According to who? Black friday is a american holiday and thus the american sales of consoles is what really matters when you look at this particular day.

Black Friday has been quite heavily pushed in the UK over the last few years. Some retailers are still pretty sceptical (they feel it's just concentrating sales rather than creating a worthwhile number of new ones), but it does exist and it does result in a significant week on week rise of console sales.

You'd be right to say that the brunt of attention should be on the US, but the UK and the like have increased in BF relevance.

The bolded is probably to a certain degree true (at least in the sense that the increased volume of sales is countered by an at least equivalent decrease in margins). However as a retailer, if you don't participate in Black Friday, your competitors will get those sales, and they will be shifted from your own store to your competitors. So even though it doesn't create new (profitable) sales, it can shift marketshare.

Oh I agree that Black Friday is a worldwide thing now but when "success" of black Friday was discussed on this forum and other like it, the US was the main topic just like when npds are discussed. Not taking away from the other countries which have now decided to jump on a US celebration.

But...  in the tittle says   "UK"

One might think the OP actually wanted to talk about...   the UK...

I don't know if that (UK) bit was in the title from the get go or if it was added after. If it was in the title when the thread was published then I jumped the gun.

Considering that the percentage difference between PS4 Pro and XB1X is similar to the percentage difference between PS4 and XB1, I wonder why you've never said that XB1 should cost half as much as the PS4.

At launch XB1X cost $499 and is 42.86% stronger than the PS4 Pro (according to you PS4 Pro should cost $249 and include a game)
At launch PS4 cost $399 and is 41.54% stronger than the XB1 (with your logic XB1 should've launched at $199 and include a game)

PS4: 1840 gigaflops
Xbox One: 1300 gigaflops
(41.54% difference)

PS4 Pro: 4.2 teraflops
Xbox One X: 6 teraflops
(42.86% difference)

You are looking it the wrong way...

Since X1 debuted at 499, it was 25% stronger than PS4.

Oh, I get it now.

Thanks

I wonder when Microsoft will come out with their statement about Black Friday sales and how well or not it went. I'm guessing they will announce next week when Playstation Experience kicks off.

I’m stilling betting that Sony’s 79 million by FY2017 end was a conservative estimate. 80-81 million seems more

We could be looking at 100m by end of FY2018. Incredible.

Nothing about BF here, and that statement makes it sound like they're leaving traditional hardware behind or something

It’s possible. According to Sony, the PS2 took 5 years 9 months to reach 100 million sold, which is still to this day the fastest of any home console. That would be around July 2019 in PS4’s LT. I think it’s actually going to happen; 100 million sold faster than PS2.
