Take OLED.

I have the same dilemma but decided I should obviously wait for the OLEDs to drop in price and improve the input lag (which the wonderful LGs already did dramatically in the 2017 models compared with 2016 models).

OLEDs will be almost half price one year from now and ordinary LED TVs will be considered obsolete in another couple of years. The difference in picture quality is just so big.

The Sony x900 is a great TV.

I have a OLED tv and its absolutely stunning, mine is from LG but whatever brand you pick up the OLED will deffenitely be a much better experience color wise, on another level.

Yeah, no. The burn-in risk is too high for OLED to replace LED, and the price of OLED won't be dropping below LED.

No, the future will be with Samsung's QLED technology. While it's disappointing now, the technology can be made self-emitting with enough R&D. Then we'll have what is essentially OLED black levels with significantly higher color volume and a resistance to burn-in. OLED itself will be just like Plasma: a dead end.

Wait for OLED if you want that big jump like you ask for, trust me. Unless your current tv broke and you absolutely need to replace it, wait for OLED.

A good time to jump would be when next gen arrive,  OLEDs keep getting better and cheaper each year.

Also HDMI 2.1 is coming (variable refresh rates), all current TV's will be outdated soon.

As for burn in, people need to learn the difference between burn in and image retention, what you get is the latter which disappears over time.

Plasmas were notorious for this as well, and people in the LCD/LED camp would recommend it over plasma because of "da burn in" which was dumb, because plasmas had superior image quality, and burn in wasn't a problem since the early 00s.

My 8 year old plasma has no burn in, and it went through hours of static images when I was afk at games or my PC that's hooked up to it.

Fuller is a series of lighting switches that turn on and off individually for each other, giving deeper black levels to the TV that's using it.

QLED isn't really much to worry about right now. All you need to know is it has a lot more color.

My 8 year old plasma had very visible and distracting difference in color and brightness at the sides where the black bars normally are for 4:3 content, since most tv content wasn't 16:9 yet. Meanwhile I was making fun at all the people that were watching stretched 4:3 content on a 16:9 tv. The joke was on me... It eventually got better, yet I've watched 4:3 content zoomed for years with the bottom and top cut off (at least no distortion) and it eventually wore out the same.

And yeah, check rtings to see it's still an issue.
