Thanks for all the input guys. It at least gives me an idea of what to go for. My current TV is a plasma and I remember getting image retention after playing a few hours of God of War. The health bar showed up everywhere for a long long time, so I'm not sure I wanna risk buying a new TV that can have the same problem.

How much will you spend at most? Which screen size will it have?

I think $CAD 2000 will be the upper limit, for size somewhere between 55" and 65".

I just ordered a 65' Sony 4K X900E Thursday night and got a 200 dollar gift card at Best Buy in Canada. The Pro is on for $399.99 so I am using the GC on that today. My theatre system just crapped out on me last week. So that's all that's left now.

I got about 700 bucks left to spend on that. Thinking either a package surround sound system or just a sound bar with a sub woofer.

The Sony X900E is on sale atm for CAD 1900 at best buy, online only though. I paid 2500 for it 2 months ago, that's a great deal. The LG C7 is also on sale yet CAD 3000 for the 65", CAD 2000 for the 55". (matching the Sony X930E) The Z9D and A1E are CAD 4500 for 65". Prices go up fast on the high end. Don't even look at 75" screens :)

The X900E is definitely the best value for price atm, it already was for me at 2500. Too bad my tv broke and I couldn't wait until BF deals.

Get the Skyrim PSVR kit, it's simply phenomenal. It looks great on the pro thanks to super sampling. Then you have the best of both worlds, HZD on the 900E and Skyrim in VR, amazing year!

But I guess you do need sound lol. Make sure whatever you buy has hdmi 2.1

Just going to point out the obvious in that you linked to LG to discuss OLED reliability, as if they aren't going to be obscenely biased.

Here's a link from an actual burn-in test that is still ongoing from a website that legitimately doesn't care which TV is the best, since they make money from any links used to buy TV's:

Good link. It tells me enough on the LG link they talk about different options to try to fix the problems they claim aren't a big deal, while at the bottom washing their hands from it "Reasonable, responsible usage of an OLED TV, combined with powerful image preservation abilities should result in a seamless home entertainment experience" Don't let your kids touch it!

My experience with Plasma was that it will eventually wear out the same to 'fix' the problem. (The black bars on the side from 4:3 content were very visible, took months in zoom mode to 'fix' that) However that also tells you that your tv is basically slowly wearing out from day one... It's interesting to follow that peak brightness and color graph. They're only at 1300 hours so far, that would be less than 4 months in my house.

For Christmas my husband and I have decided to offer ourselves a brand new 4K TV. Problem is, I'm not sure what to lookout for besides price and width. What brands are considered good or bad? What other options should I be asking for? Any electronics pros out there have anything to recommend?

Also is the PS4 Pro upgrade worth it once you've got a 4K TV?

BEST

X930E (SONY)*

X900E (SONY)

MU9000 (SAMSUNG)**

Q7F (SAMSUNG)***

Q8F (SAMSUNG)***

Q9F (SAMSUNG)***

GREAT

X850E (SONY)

X720E (SONY)

MU8000/8500 (SAMSUNG)**

MU7000/7500 (SAMSUNG)**

GOOD

X800E (SONY)

MU6290/6300/6490/6500 (SAMSUNG)**

SJ9500 (LG)****

SJ8500/8570 (LG)****

TO AVOID

OLEDs (As I've previously posted, OLED does burn-in. I recommend avoiding it altogether.)

RGBW Panels (LG's UJ6200, UJ6300, UJ7700, and SJ8000 all use the notorious "FauxK" panel. Not worth money)

X940E (While great for movies, the high response time of this panels results in ghosting that sucks for games)

X690E (Nothing particularly bad about this TV, but being an 8-bit panel it won't actually show HDR, even though it supports it on a software level)

Vizio (Vizio is notorious for using secondhand parts and failing. They also lack TV tuners on most models. Avoid if possible.)

*A great TV in its own right, but also roughly 3 times brighter than the rest of the list

**Samsungs all have fantastic input lag, making them all better for professional gaming.

***While the QLEDs are good, they're usually very overpriced.

****While I don't recommend them personally, they have the lowest input lag for any 4K TVs on the market.

Yeah I need some good sound first off. lol  I would have got the PSVR unit had the surround sound not crapped out too. I will definitely look for HDMI 2.1 though. Thanks for the advice.  :)

OLED picture quality just is so much above everything else.

Slightly bitter people who recently bought LED TVs from other manufacturers because the OLEDs were still quite high price in 2016 will tell you otherwise though.

1500 euro currently for a 55 inch LG B7V OLED is dirty cheap for the revolution you get.

Ive had a X800D for about a year, and it’s an excellent TV. Mines a 49”, And is probably extremely affordable right now, assuming they still sell them new.
