Forums - Gaming Discussion - Looking into a 4K TV, any recommendations?

For Christmas my husband and I have decided to offer ourselves a brand new 4K TV. Problem is, I'm not sure what to lookout for besides price and width. What brands are considered good or bad? What other options should I be asking for? Any electronics pros out there have anything to recommend?

Also is the PS4 Pro upgrade worth it once you've got a 4K TV?

If you want top-of-the-line stuff you should be looking at the LG OLEDs (B7A / C7 / E7P), they are the best quality TVs you can get and don't cost much more than the Samsungs etc.

For medium budgets the Sony X850E/X900E sets are very good in price and performance. If the TV is mostly used for gaming the Vizio P series 2017 could be a worthwhile alternative

If you are going for minimum budget the TCL P605/P607 are surprisingly competent TVs especially for gaming.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Definitely don’t go cheap if you want to game on it. Things like HDR capabilities (number of nits, HDR10 capability) and latency (in HDR mode) matter a lot for gamers.

If you own a UHD TV the PS4 Pro is a no-brainer and well worth it!

Not LG: mine sucks.

The Sony X900E Family are some of the best TV's with gaming in mind.

What worries me the most with OLED TV's is the IR, it is VERY annoying from what i previously experienced with Plasma TV's.

I owned 2 Panasonic Mid Range Plasmas, and both of them got IR pretty easily. Never got to the point of Burn In, but i was always too distracted with the retention on the screen.

I may buy an OLED TV in the future, but i want the IR issue to be as minimal as possible.

By IR, do you mean when stuff like the Netflix logo somehow linger on the screen even after the movie is started?

this one is simple.... all TV's support 4k, HDR and low input lag.

LOW BUDGET:
TCL P607. MSRP of $650. you can probably get it for around $500 considering deals.

MID BUDGET
LG B7 Oled MSRP $1500-$1800
Sony X900E

HIGH BUDGET
Sony A1E OLED MSRP (expensive) I

I'm very happy with my 65" Sony 900E. It was between that and the 55" OLED C7. I'm glad I went for the bigger size instead of the deepest blacks. Black level on the Sony is perfectly fine and the only times you notice the effect of local dimming instead of per pixel like on OLED is during end titles or a logo somewhere on a further black screen.

Normal PS4 looks great on it already and should allow HDR as well which is the biggest difference. Pro makes everything sharper. To what that effects you depends on how far you sit from the tv. When I play GT Sport on that I put my chair 5ft in front of the 65" to see all the details.

Anyway that tv looks awesome from SNES mini to PS4 Pro with HDR. Blu-ray looks great as well, and I have no intention to pay extra for 4K UHD discs. Those I watch comfortably from the couch 12ft away so it wouldn't make much difference.
