Forums - General Discussion - The Impossible Task: 5 Languages

I'm only fluent in two languages. I have some knowledge of french and I intend to expand that knowledge eventually, but I have other things to focus on right now. Remember, your rate of success is inversely proportional to the square of the amount of things you attempt.

But if you ever want to learn Norwegian, then let me know.

I want to learn why people bother to learn Norwegian.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Why would you want to know five? I'm fluent in English, Japanese and Chinese and that's all I'll ever really need.

Well, it'd be 6 including English. However, I will probably end up having to cut some of these languages if I'm not making enough progress.

Well, why bother to learn anything other than English and your mother tongue to begin with? That's more than enough to get across almost anywhere in the world anyway.

2 languages has always been good for me, but I may go on to learn Hebrew and Spanish later on. Whatever you do, I wish the best of luck to you

You need Japanese to watch anime without subtitles, duh. You also need Chinese to better communicate with our future overlords.

So you do need at least 2.5 languages and maybe your native one.

Huh, I didn't know robots spoke Chinese?!?

I'd say English+Spanish are the most versatile languages to learn due to how much impact the two languages have. Other languages depend on context. No point in a Brazilian learning German, but a person from France may find it beneficial
