If free dlc updates like SPlatoon and Arms, then MK8D, but otherwise 9.
DLC in multiplayer games that split userbase just annoy me, so would have more paid dlc for 8, but in same sense I feel like 9 will be a step back from 8. I can't imagine it having as many characters or tracks as 8 currently has, so you just kind of want to keep making 8 better than starting over.
MK9 2-3 years in the future, nicely coinciding with when I upgrade from Wii U to Switch.
Personally, I'd love to see MK 9 kind of take the Diddy Kong Racing route, with different vehicles to drive, and a singleplayer adventure mode, with a sort of hubworld, like in DKR, with having to pass races and missions to advance to new areas in the map.
Basically, I think they've perfected Mario Kart in it's current form, so i nthe next one, they need to go in some very different direction.
