Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ideas for what Nintendo may do next?

Knowing Nintendo, we'll probably get some new IP's for the Switch. What I'm wondering however is what people are anticipating.

The only new IP we currently have is ARMS, which is...rather interesting to say the least. Seeing their past IP's, I think we should expect another 'fresh' IP to arrive with some sort of competitive scene. We currently have 2 active fighting IP's, so perhaps we may see an RPG be developed for the Switch as well.

Also, I know these aren't new IP's, but I really hope Ever Oasis and Wonderful 101 get sequels. They're deserving of one honestly, as they're fairly solid series.

Yakuza X F-Zero spinoff developed by Sega, with a new tie-in F-Zero title, also developed by Sega.

and heaps of anime.

Since this is Nintendo we're talking about, I have no idea what they could be doing next, but whatever it is I just hope that it's a singleplayer focused game. Splatoon and ARMS are cool, but I just like singleplayer games more =P

Edit: By the way, can we please get a teaser/trailer on whatever Retro's doing already? They've been silent for too long now and I'm curious to see what kind of game it is.

Virtual Reality! Duh how can you not see that? Nintendo will only do this if they desire to destroy themselves.

No but seriously I expect Nintendo to start making Switch sequels that were prominent in their handheld lineup.  So I expect Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem to be announced sometime next year. I also expect Nintendo to continue to make new Ips this generation.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Nintendo has a ton of IP that could be revived from the dead into rebirth franchises. I hope this is what Koizumi was talking about. They could take games like Takamaru, Ice Climber, That Link's Awakening Prequel, etc. and really revamp them into something unique.

I'd also like to see Nintendo tackle a Mega Man game, or another Golden Sun. Possibly even co-develop a Shining Force IV with Sega and Camelot, because the Shining series turned to shit after III . Nintendo has a ton of potential content which is why I feel so happy with my Switch purchase. The possibilities are endless, let's just hope Nintendo takes advantage their combined divisions and really pump out some quality HD titles on Switch.

Well if it helps ease your concerns, Retro hasn't made a multiplayer game, yet. I too want more single player games, because honestly Nintendo doesn't need more new multiplayer games. It's quite redundant to make yet another colorful competitive multiplayer game when you've already got Arms, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Pokkén Tournament, and more (besides Smash, which is certainly coming). I'd rather have more adventures.

Agree with everything you've said. Nintendo has a lot of MP games on the Switch already so there's no rush to put out more for now. I just want more adventures as well.

If history is any indication, probably spend the next three years making spin off Mario/Zelda games that no one asked for before winning everyone back with another gem.

Frankly, much like with Galaxy and Ocarina I think Nintendo should reuse that brilliant engine (apparently Odyssey is a modified version of the same engine from BotW) to produce sequels far quicker and within the lifespan of this generation. It would be a shame to see all the work that went into them only getting used once, and it seems to me that the sequels could both surpass their predecessors as far as content and gameplay is concerned should they choose to devote themselves to it.

Not sure what else they're planning.

Ok so Zelda, as popular as it is in the west, is still closer to being its own unique thing, and Xenoblade is a JRPG. What I'd like, and hope they are working on it already, Nintendo to create is a western RPG (with level ups, cutscenes, open world yet very linear story telling like xenoblade). I don't want anime (that's fine for xenoblade and zelda), but a realistic looking RPG game. I get it, they like art style (and I love them for that), but I'd like just one RPG like the other devices get. I'd even take an action adventure open world game, still bumbed I've never gotten to experience red dead redemption.

You do realize "realistic" games also have an art style, right? Everything can be an art style, that's not a term only limited to unrealistic stuff.

That said, beside the realistic part, most of what you wish seems to apply to that leak or rumor about Monolith's next game or something.

Sorry, disagree. Real life isn't an art style, that's real life, at least in my opinion. If something has art style, that means it looks different than everyday life, it doesn't look like it's trying to replicate real life. Here's what google says (regardless of what it means, I stand by my opinion fully aware I could be wrong):

In the visual artsstyle is a "...distinctive manner which permits the grouping of works into related categories". or "...any distinctive, and therefore recognizable, way in which an act is performed or an artifact made or ought to be performed and made".
