Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What if Bethesda is doing Metroid?

It's Bandai Namco.

Ok people, Bethesda Softworks is a *publisher*. Looking at the OP, it seems he's almost certainly referring to id. Id is a developer under Bethesda. So stop referring to Bethesda Game Studios.

I'd rather Nintendo just license id Tech 6.

Im still shocked it wasn't given to Retro Studio's what have they been doing the last 3 years? They haven't really done too much in the last 10 years other than a couple of side scrolling Donkey Kong games right? Which while they were great, don't scream long development requirements.

Pls no.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Bethesda has made lots of good games. What makes you think they can't handle Metroid Prime?

I haven't played too many Bethesda games, but what I did play ranged from average to just good. The Metroid Prime trilogy ranges from amazing to masterpiece, and has a very different mood and feel to it than Bethesda games in general (which feel far more generic in their first-person settings). There's enough reason why I think they can't handle Metroid Prime, mostly just being the fact I dislike most of their games.

That said, Bethesda isn't a developer per se, so all of this makes no sense.

The studio the OP and those not freaking out and shouting NOOOOO are thinking of is most like id.  I doubt anyone with any sense would expect Bethesda Game Studios - an open world western RPG studio - to work on a Metroidvania.

Doubtful, but i'd be on board.  A proven developer.

But Fallout 3 and 4 were first-person shooters like Metroid Prime.

No, not really no.  They had first person shooting, yes, but they are RPGs first and foremost.  In terms of gameplay, world and level design, controls, etc, the games share nothing else in common.  Shoot, Fallout 3 and 4 also have 3rd person options.

Doom 2016 has far more in common in various areas of design and gameplay.  Hence id.
