Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Minions Studio Close To Agreement To Make Mario Films

Illumination Entertainment aka Minions, Dispicable Me, and Secret Life of Pets company -are in negotiations with Nintendo to make Mario movies.

Honestly, with how terrible IE is, this is a horrific development. But likely to happen... *sigh*

"Mario and Luigi are heading to the big screen in one of the highest-profile licensing deals by a Hollywood studio in years.

Illumination Entertainment, which makes animated films for Comcast Corp.’sUniversal Pictures, is close to an agreement with Nintendo Co. to make an animated “Super Mario Bros.” movie based on the 32-year-old videogame series about a pair of sibling plumbers who fight evil turtles and mushrooms in a fantasy kingdom, said people with knowledge of the discussions."

Should have went with Pixar but Disney's greedy hands probably would have been all over that.

Video game films rarely work out for the best. Why bother?

Besides, if they expect to best the greatness that was Super Mario Bros from the 90s, think again.

Hmm, pie.

Also likely due to the Universal theme park deal. It would be a conflict of interest. Why would Pixar/Disney allow one of their movies to be shown next to stuff from Universal theme parks?

Oh god no. Illumination Entertainment is one of the laziest animation studios out there.

I mean, as bad as the film may be, a lot of people will watch it for sure, which will be good business-wise for both Nintendo and IE.

I don't know how this will turn out. Just Marios voice alone will be a problem.

Nintendo's quality control will not allow any old crap to be made, so I'm not worried about this. Especially as its concerning their biggest IP. I know there have been the odd suspect video game involving Mario, but on the whole its mostly high quality stuff.

Sarcasm much? Even Bob Hoskins hated that movie.

Pfft, whatever. He doesn't know the true greatness of what he created.

Hmm, pie.

WSJ, wrong again...they're not plumbers anymore
