Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your favorite games of 2017?

Hello everybody. The end of the year is coming up and it feels like everything went bye so fast. This year has been filled with some good, mostly bad, but one area that has been consistently excellent has been the gaming landscape! So many games ranging from small indie experiences to big triple A titles. I know the year isn't over yet, but we can update our feelings as we go.

As of now - what are your favorite games of 2017? What is your #1 favorite? And why?

Favorite game: Persona 5

Love the characters, the soundtrack is amazing, and the story, while having one weak part, and being a little ridiculous, still did a good job of telling a story that centers around the theme of prison.

Honorable mentions: Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Cuphead, Sonic Mania, Metroid Samus Returns.

I can't really say because spoiling anything from my top 50 list would be criminal, so I'll instead list some of the games I could have loved and wanted to play, but never got around to or was unable to:

hm... Persona 5 is definitely the one I most want to play. Nier: Automata, Cuphead look quite interesting too. Sonic Mania I can maybe consider because I didn't finish it, but I did play a good portion of the levels. I'm unsure about Horizon: Zero Dawn being a favorite but I'm sure I'd have enjoyed it. Crash N. Sane Trilogy would definitely be up there, but it is only a remake too... and then there's pretty much anything that released on Switch only of course. I don't have the system yet so there goes.

You don't have a Switch? How'd you play Odyssey?

Also not playing those games is criminal. Even if you don't end up liking them you should play them some time in the future.

Breath of the Wild, easily.

Also, I have Persona 5, but haven't played cause... I don't know, really.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

When did I ever say I played Odyssey?

Also I did say I want to play those games, which is why I mentioned them. I really want to see what Persona 5 is all about moreso than any other, but I don't have a PS3 or PS4 (and unlike the Switch, I'm not really planning on getting either), so I'm mostly just waiting for the opportunity to eventually arrive. It'll come someday for sure, I have friends I can try to borrow the console from (isn't the likeliest thing to happen but everything comes in time).

Edit: see, this might be it right here. Slarvax, if you're going to be a lazy ass, why don't you just give lend me your game (and console)?

!!! : O i guess i just assumed !!!

Must the games strictly be from 2017? Because I want to mention Doom on Switch, I'm having an absolute blast with it, can't really understand why it didn't appeal to me back in 2016.

But speaking solely about games of this year, I'd say Splatoon 2, FIFA 18, Sonic Mania, and Super Mario Odyssey

probably Breath of the Wild but I wouldn't be surprised if Odyssey ends up passing it. I just haven't had time to play a ton of Mario yet

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU)

99 out of 100

Clocked 75 hours into the game and loved every bit of it. The open world, the OST, the design, sound effects, everything.

One of the best games I've played ever too and this is after playing OoT3D and ALBW in the same year.

----

Games I've finished this year but were from yesteryears.......

Final Fantasy XV (PS4) - 89 out of 100 - as flawed as it is, I really enjoyed the game. The main characters, the music and even the combat made up for all the flaws.

Banjo Tooie (N64) - 97 out of 100 - the best platformer on the N64. Had so much fun playing this again

The World Ends With You (NDS) - 91 out of 100 - this was a surprising game that I played, didnt expect much getting into the game but came out surprised. It had flawed touch screen controls , but everything else about the game made up for it.

Mass Effect 3 (Origin/PC) - 91 out of 100 - end of a great space trilogy - easily the weakest out of the 3 that I played but still very enjoyable

Freedom Planet (Steam/PC) - 97 out of 100 - This is the best Sonic game that isnt a Sonic game, possibly my most favorite Indie game too. Cant wait for the sequel to come out

Disgaea PC (Steam/PC) - 99 out of 100 - another great classic, loved it on the PS2 but I enjoyed it the most on PC. Its my third most played game on Steam right now.

Thomas Was Alone (Steam/PC) - 82 out of 100 - this game was quite simple but the music, the narration and the overall atmosphere made this game worthwhile

-CUPID - A free to play Visual Novel (Steam/PC) - 91 out of 100 - very good looking Visual novel, very surprising it was F2P cause its quality and design made even the paid to play VNs look trash lol
