Yeah, I think anyone stating it's completely turning them off would be an exaggeration. They'd have to go with mandatory nude/lingerie costumes in order to make me skip the game.

My biggest issue with it is that they can make such cool designs without it. Male characters are always buff and hot, but they still have other features to them as well. They don't need to be shirtless or wearing a thong to represent that.

I think some people misunderstood me, which is sad. I already said it's a minor issue (it's in the title...), and I think there's nothing wrong with pointing out these things.

I agree that it's a minor annoyance but the problem with male and female characters is that females are generally attracted to cool males and smart makes and competent males unlike males who are attracted to female bodies. There is genetic biological reasoning behind that but that's how it is even the females when they look at each other start booking things down to shallow things so this isn't a male issue. And when males compare each other they also bring it to some shallow stuff but they also do it in terms of skill and abilities so I would say blame humanity as a whole for this issue unless everyone's perception changes to what us minorities think like, this stuff won't change

You bring a fair point. Sex sells, and clearly they placed it in the game for a reason. Even though it doesn't appeal to me, I suppose the majority are neutral or appreciate it being in the game.

Around the Network

There is a trend going on on all the gaming forums that people want to have Japanese games but they don’t want them to be totally Japanese any more.
They complain about pure Japanese elements in Japanese games.

If you don’t like these things, go play western games.

I laughed at the character designs.

I don't mind, personally, but I also don't mind nuking Japan over Eromanga-Sensei and Umaru-chan (and a second season?!) existing.

Don't hate on Umaru! >:(

Please don't confuse "I hate X" with "I want to nuke Y because of X."

Two very different concepts.

Well, the issue is one that you've created just for yourself.

"Looking past the looks, the stereotypical nature of said characters and the annoying, one dimensional personalities we've seen as well are issues that stretch beyond subjective opinions of sexualization"

It's not like the game is out in order to make a final judgement on certain characters and their personalities. Also, you probably don't get inside the personality of each blade you find or don't find. I surely don't know what you are expecting.

But clearly, the game is not meant for people like you. Same goes for Platinum Games, Project Zero franchise, most of anime, and Japan culture. What else is there to say? I consider these designs more than harmless and it goes with the surreal setup of the world.  If you don't like nudity or some sort of these stuff then I guess you should also open a thread for Assassins Creed: Origins where the women are walking topless through the streets and you can see dicks on the statues of men.

Look at the quote above yours.

Oh sure, you are allowed to criticize certain aspects of a game, but so far, the criticism is all that I see too much butt on a random, not important to the plot, character. And that criticism goes so far to avoid playing the game in the first place :/ . Actually, it becomes rather ridiculous to be honest.

It goes the way of me to say that I don't like the color of the fruit on that particular tree, because I like my fruits to have the shape of an apple and it has to be red. 7.8/10, not enough red apples.

Or I tell people not buy Harry Potter books because the story is about dark magic. You know who I mean....

And in retrospect, that criticism becomes rather stupid and shows that certain people haven't matured enough. Sorry to attack certain people who share this kind of view and criticism, but I don't know how to say it otherwise.

This whole criticism is subjective and stems from an insecure objection.

Again, just look at the whole picture and see what game aspects are actually being criticised for and how much they cope with the rest of the actual game. And also do tell me how much do you actually know of the game.

The thing is however, I criticize animes which use unnecessary sexualization. Animes such as Naruto made appealing characters without needing their tits or ass flashing. The closest we got to that was Tsunade, but (once again) simply showing their body doesn't bother me.

I'm not sure if you looked through the entire thread, but I posted examples of what I thought was unnecessary. I don't expect everyone to read the entire thread, so feel free to see the link I posted if you haven't.

Funny you mention Naruto. Did you never saw Naruto's sexy harem jutsu?

I saw the link and the picture of that blade. Like I said, it is pretty harmless. There were worse stuff in XCX like the boob slider which got censored or the skimpy bikini outfits in Project Zero for Wii U and also XCX for that girl character. Not that I am bothered by it in any way. I just have a higher tolerance towards this stuff. And that blade is not even a human being.

But again, what you trying to achieve with a thread like that? Japanese character designers to ask the west for permission for their designs? Are you trying to limit the imagination of said designers, because you feel unconformtable and insecure by looking at it?

I mean, these minor annoyances made you create a thread to find justification in your reasoning. I wouldn't count them as minor anymore.

Minor annoyance would be by driving a vehicle into water and see it unreasonable explode. (Crysis)

There are a lot of echi anime series out there, but I am not making a thread about it, because I am interested in one but don't like that loli sexualisation stuff and want them to change that. I just don't watch them at all or just cope with it as long as it falls into my tolerance meter.

I still appreciate that you share your opinions on this issue, but as I said, I consider it harmless. It's their vision of the game. I personally don't like Pyra's boob size. I think that one is just to large, but there it is and I go with it and see where the ride takes me.

Just don't hurt a single hair on Umaru's head and we're all cool.

This.

To each's own i guess, but i hope people who are bothered by that, are equally or more bothered by real-life sexualization, which is rampant across every form of media to all viewers, indiscriminate of age. I suspect that's not the case though.

You have no reason to suspect that

I do, but ok.

I find the underage / pedophilic nature of the sexualization in a lot of modern anime disturbing.  See: Nowi in Fire Emblem.

"Oh but she's a million-zillion years old for real!"  Yeah, right.  I found it so hard to look at Nowi that after 2-3 levels I never used her again.  I feel like I've seen similar underage-looking girls in most fan service games lately, e.g. Senran Kagura.

I feel like the fan service in general contributes to an anime cliché / nerdy vibe in Japanese games, but I can deal with that if they just keep the pedophilia out of it.

We agree to disagree I suppose. It's nitpicky to me, but the conversation surrounding it is interesting.

I'm glad I made this thread. It's actually very enlightening

I'm probably the only person who fully agrees with you here.

I have warmed up to the game a lot more compared to how I felt 6 months ago, but that doesn't change the fact that I will be skeptical about how the game itself is until launch, and things like Pyra's character design aren't doing any favors for me at all.

Not the only one! I can't speak to this game as I haven't seen what he described, but it definitely bothers me in other games when they sexualize characters that were intentionally made to look underage.
