Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 VS Switch lifetime sales, which console will sell the most?

What do you expect?

NSW will win by a huge margin 53 16.06%

NSW will win by a small margin 75 22.73%

PS4 will win by a small margin 75 22.73%

PS4 will win by a huge margin 117 35.45%

Sorry, no troll XB1 option. :P Oh wait... 10 3.03%

I still can't make any call until their 3rd party sitch has solidified.

Broooo..... what?

PS4 selling 200k a week. So you're saying switch is gonna sell 400k-800k a week?.....

Bro...

PS4 is selling around 200k a week this year. Both of the people you quoted are talking about the following years, which will very much see drops in weekly sales.

Edit: I don't know if someone's already pointed out this obvious fact to you because I'm not reading six pages, so sorry if someone has.

Couldnt the same have been said for PS4? In 2014 it had Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, FIFA, GTA, Madden, NBA, Watch Dogs, Destiny, etc. Yet it still sold better in 2015, 2016 & 2017.

Nintendo still has quite a bit of big guns left, like you said Pokemon is a huge one but Animal Crossing, Smash Bros and 2D Mario are all capable of selling over 10 million. On top of that, Nintendo has a couple dozen B/C tier franchises that can sell in the 1-5 million range. Thats not even factoring price cuts and revisions.

Im talking about System Selling Exclusives.

It will be really difficult to replicate what Nintendo has done this year with the Switch Lineup.

I mean, its like Sony releasing Uncharted, God of War and Gran Turismo in the same year!

This thread will be gold only one year from now, lol.

Yea remember the wiiu, now that was comedy gold, see the same thing happening here, now saying the switch will bomb like wiiu, but it wont touch ps4, and japan sales will slow down fast, same with US.

The Switch is receiving on its first year basically all of their Huge System sellers: A 3D Mario, a Zelda, a Mario Kart and a Splatoon game.

With the exception of Pokemon, that obviously would be HUUUGE for the system, what else do they have that would move a crazy number of units?

most of those game come out on a yearly bases. ps4 has full industry support, pretty much every game coming out is gonna be on the console, except nintedo games, and sorry nintedo games, are not gonna sell more consoles then the entire industry's games, they had a domination on the handheld market, but the market will continue to shrink because of mobile.

3rd party multiplats are the primary system seller for PS consoles.

Theoretically Nintendo could release Smash Bros, Animal Crossing & Pokemon next year and it would have a similar affect as their system selling lineup this year.

The PS4 still outsells the Switch Worldwide in almost every week, also the PS4 still has not reached its sales peak.

So i ask, when will the gap close enough to surpass the PS4? Let’s be realistic here people.

Than you first would need to be realistic, you comparing best PS4 year in 4 years with Switch 1st year where most of year Switch had supply problems and still have them in Japan for instance. Second, Vgchartz numbers are not most accurate, but we know that Switch won most of NPD US months in sales from March and we know that Switch is selling much better than PS4 in Japan, and we again talk about best PS4 year until now and 1st Switch year with huge suply problems.

This chart shows both of that. Then you look at the EU.

You do realise that you comparing 1st Switch year where most of year Switch had huge supply problems (and still have them in Japan), with best PS4 year after 4. years on market!?

What you wish for and whats gonna actually happen isnt the same thing. If you believe sales are gonna slow down fast then you dont kno how sales work.

In a year from now goal post will be moved and youll say "next year itll slow down" as well.... Itll turn out true eventually but not as soon as you think (or should i say hope?)

Apart from personal bias, what makes you think it will slow down in any of these territories? Demand has only recently even been met in the U.S. and still not even been met in Japan. I actually voted for the PS4 to win, due to longevity. However whilst i still think that, i don't think it's a lock that the PS4 will even beat Switch WW this year. If Amazon is anything to go by, Switch wins in U.S. massively in both October and November, won't lose Europe by enough to offset that and probably wins December too. That would be enough to catch the 1.9m or whatever the gap is this year. Holiday time is when the sales race is "won" or "lost" in all reality.
