If you downgrade DOOM, Wolfenstein, Dragonball Z and other games hard enough, even the N64 will be able to run it. That doesn't make the performance current gen. First of all, going from 60fps to 30fps is a MASSIVE downgrade. And then they also have to lower texture detail, lighting, rendering and much more. This amount of adjusting takes months because they have to re-evaluate the whole game. And then besides all the downgrades, also content is missing.

Switch is running last gen games, not current gen. And that for 320 euros excluding a game is way too much.

And yet, it sells like crazy.

It's crazy right? The Switch offers absolutely nothing more (way less actually) than Wii U did at launch and its features and content atm is severy lacking. Yet Wii U numbers were abysmal. I think the console/handheld hybrid hype is making people blind when it comes to price/content ratio.

Or maybe it is a product people want regardless of your opinion on the concept?

3ds is shit compared to wiiu, yet people bought 3ds 10x more, people like to buy nintedo handhelds, and switch is a modern nintedo handheld, what did you expect?

Not to mention the WiiU lacked any 1st party blockbusters and went into a draught early.

Meanwhile the Switch has had BotW, Mario, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 hit in less than a year, which is a HUGE deal.  Not to mention other good exclusives like Splatoon 2, ARMs, Mario Plus Rabbids, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Kart 8 Delux (recent WiiU port), Pokken (recent WiiU port), etc.

Furthermore while 3rd party support for WiiU started strong, it died fast.  Switch on the other hand is GAINING 3rd party support and has much mkre long term potential than the WiiU ever did.

This thread is fairly insane for the amount of time people have invested in a port of a game on a console they will never buy.

That said, having played the first 4-5 stages of this I can confirm there is nothing like this on the handheld right now, amazing work they done putting this onto a system like the Switch. More than happy to support that amount of work and support from the dev.

DOOM, Wolfenstein II, Dragonball Xenoverse 2, NBA2k18, WWE2k18, Dagonquest (whatever the newest one is), etc are all current gen games that are either here or coming, and there are more to come.  Plus 1st party exclusives are current gen as well.

Try harder

Content, you mean level editor that nobody knows that Doom have it at all!? Nobody really cares about Doom level editor.

Doom is current gen game, not last gen, same like NBA 2K18, Rocket League, Wolfenstein 2...

Is this serious post!? I really hope its not. :)

Switch has killer 1st year lineup, has two most critically acclaimed games this generation in 1st 8 months of console on market, and also has games like MK8D and Splatoon 2 that are also very strong and system seller games, Wii U didnt had nothing even similar. Besides great and strong games, Switch has great concept and appealing, console that can be played anywhere and anytime, real home console and handheld in one, and actualy offers two controllers out of box for local multiplayer.

3DS being shit is your opinion. 3DS actually has a lot of quality games right now. However it had a very bad first few months until the price drop + quality games came. Switch right now is still very expensive and at launch the games were very lacklustre (for me it's still very bad) but somehow it still sold exceptionally well. It has to be the console/handheld hybrid concept because it offers nothing special content-wise compared to Wii U/3DS launch.

well you're being silly.  highest rated zleda since oot, being called revolutionary be the almost every outlet  then you have mario kart, splatoon, and mario 64 sequel that also now the highest rated game of all time, with a handheld that really is a much better value then 3ds, the tech is way more modern for it's time. it also helps that this nintendo's next console as well. even if you think the game are lackluster you should be able to see why those games are seling switches. there nintendo's biggest franchises that are being called revolutionary by every media online.

Even a bit worse than expected.
Sub 720p most of the time and gets down to 21 FPS in larger firefights.

and people are wondering why there aren't more PS4/X1 games on the Switch. Doom was a good running game in comparison to many others *cough* FFXV *cough*.

You do realise that FFXV runs bad even on PS4 Pro, game is not optimised and has very demanding engine, thats all.

Infos we having curently tell us that Doom is seling quite nice on Switch, so yes desipite "Sub 720p most of the time and gets down to 21 FPS in larger firefights" game is selling well and Bethesda will make profit, so yes, people are wondering why there aren't more PS4/X1 games on the Switch beacuse they can make money on those ports, but we know that much more PS4/XB1 ports are coming.

@bolded: That may have been true at first, with the bad frame pacing (while still being pretty much rock solid 30fps).

But now? Nope. The option to have the game run smoothly by selecting the Steady performance profile has been available for quite some time now and gets rid of the frame pacing issue. So yeah, the game is indeed quite optimized in its current state.

Looks like Rocket League does boost resolution when docked after all:

https://gonintendo.com/stories/295451-psyonix-talks-about-resolution-differences-for-rocket-league-when

So it looks like your initial interpretation wasn't a concern ... (Doom got a resolution boost in docked mode compared to portable mode and it is more substantial with Rocket League so are Panic Button "crap" developers still ?)

Yeah I was dead wrong there. I take back my criticisms of Panic Button.

Switch offers way more than Wii U did; nothing released in the Wii U's first year was in the same league as Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey.

So basically the ugliest version with worst performance, less content, released later and currently the most expensive in stores. It's like Switch owners deal with any amount of bullshit just because ''it's portable''.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it's simply a matter of it being a great game now available on a system I own.
