Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What 3DS games are you playing in 2017?

What 3DS games are you playing in 2017? Which do you plan to buy? What games have you bought?

Do you have a back-catalog you are looking to finish on the 3DS? Have you picked up any (fairly) new releases?

I am sad to hear that many have already abandoned the system. Granted the Switch is amazing but there is plenty of software being released for the 3DS that is interesting and worthy of merit.

For me :

Right now i'm playing Etrian Odyssey V and two hours in I really enjoy it! It's my first "dungeon crawler". It's basic, which seems to be a theme with dungeon crawlers. It's also a tad repetitive, again another thing common in these games supposedly. But the simplicity of it does not diminish the nice presentation. I spent like 30 minutes making my characters. I think the game would kind of crash under it's wait in the beginning if it wasn't for the soundtrack. Really entertaining and helps pull together the game and stop it from feeling like a chore. Overall really fun title and I expect it to be better as I continue

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I'm on the 3rd island of Pokemon Ultra Moon at the moment, played FE: SoV and M+L: SS & Bowser's Minions earlier this year, but can't see myself playing anything after finishing with UM.

I only Played FE Fates in 2017 on the 3DS.

???

The game isnt even out yet.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I bought a lot of games this year, DQ8 was the first one, Fire Emblem SoV special edition, Ever Oasis, Metroid Samus returns special edition, Hey Pikmin, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, puzzles and dragons super Mario edition, pokemon Y, omega ruby, moon, Persona Q, and one of two more I can't remember now. I'm close to finishing DQ7 (really long game), and playing puzzles and dragons Mario edition from time to time. I still plan to buy pokemon UM, Mario and Luigi SS + Bowser's minions, Radiant Historia and the Alliance Alive next year, maybe the new Kirby, and hoping for DQ11 to come to America, that 2D/3D art style is simply beautiful!

I should be playing samus returns but life wants me to wait a little longer :(

It is in *ahem* certain places.

Without spoiling anything, it's playing like a polished version of S/M, it's 80% the exact same game as S/M, but they seem to have heeded comments about overbearing handholding so far. It's still there, but much more bearable (leans more towards BW's overt signposting rather than S/M's visual novel-level of restrictiveness.)

Events are slightly tweaked from S/M, but the map, the events, the trials (not the totems themselves though) and the battles are 85% the same. Think Yellow/Crystal/Platinum rather than B2/W2; third-game/polished version of the originals, not a sequel. (Then again, I'm only three islands in, haven't hit the meaty bit of the story yet, so that may change).

I'm enjoying it much more than I did X/Y or S/M, a solid 8.75/10 from me, hoping the Rainbow Rocket stuff can lift that score higher.

I only played Bravely Second, Fire Emblem Fates (All three version) and Fire Emblem Awakening(Beat it for the 3rd time) for my 3DS. I also picked up Metroid 2 (The gameboy one) as well.

Out of the games I played I recommend the Fire Emblem games and Bravely Second (But please do play the 1st one before this. ). Those games are awesome if you are into Turned Based RPGs. The Bravely games are basically old styled Final Fantasy games. Metroid 2 was fun however I do not think most gamers can stomach the oldness of this game. If you can enjoy Metroid 1 then you can enjoy Metroid 2.

Also do not ask me why I chose Metroid 2 over its remake. Such questions do not have answers!

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

I have a solid library of 3DS games, but I havent touched my 3DS since we got the Switch at launch. The last game I played was Yoshi and Poochy's woolly world.

However, I'm very excited for Ultra Sun/Moon. I really liked Sun/Moon, and these games look like more Sun and Moon, which I'm happy about. Looks like there are many new additions like new pokemon (even if its only like 4 or 5), totem sized pokemon, team rainbow rocket, ultra recon squad, a more complete regional dex with some of my favourites returning, and an expanded ultra space have all sold me on the game. This will be the last 3DS game I'm getting, before fully moving on to the Switch.
