Forums - Movies & TV - Rian Johnson to produce new Star Wars Trilogy

For me Star Wars is an event I'd love to have every year!

Makes sense.
2017 -8
18- solo
19-9
20- kenobi or "Jar Jar Binks & Boss Nass Adventures"
21 part 1 new trilogy
22 solo 2 or other spinoff like "Tschubaka & Ewoks Adventures"
23 part 2 new trilogy
24 spinoff- solo2, 3 or kenobi 2 or "The Private Life Of Emperor Palpatine"
25 part 3 new trilogy

I figured they would introduce a new trilogy, almost certainly a prequel one, I had really hoped it would be Kotor or bane related. Doing this allows them to take a break from the main saga for 7-10 years.

You're not alone. I remember the announcement of the Star Wars prequels filled me with such joy. Now this announcement fills me with contempt.

I really don't know what's worse: three shitty prequels in six years, or one mediocre, designed-by-committee Star Wars spin-off every year until we're all dead.

So the next 5 unreleased films + spin-offs are all mediocre designed-by-committee? dunno seems to me you just weren't a fan of JJ's version. Plus stop pretending the originals were better than they were, 2 of the 3 films weren't even good in the OG Trilogy!

Bleh, this is so disappointing. Talk about Star Wars fatigue...

I had hoped they'd at least take a breather, maybe give it a decade before the next trilogy. And a TV Show? Fuck that.

Why is the TV show a bad idea? They've pretty much had a TV show on air for Star Wars since 2003. It's hardly anything new

No, I am a fan of The Force Awakens. I'd rank only A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back above it. TFA is more consistent than Return of the Jedi, which starts strongly but sputters in its second and third acts.

If the next 47 Star Wars movies prove to be great, then I'll gladly eat crow. However, based on Disney's track record with cinematic universes I expect a whole lot of movies that are either passable or workshopped within an inch of their lives, or both. Disney has a way of gentrifying, homogenizing, and serializing its properties -- something I'd rather not happen to Star Wars.

I'm trying not to be one of those guys but I remember when Star Wars was an event. Something special. Now we're getting a new one every ten minutes. If Christmas comes every week, it quits being important.

Christmas comes once a year and is very special, why can't Star Wars too.

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

I think Disney has handled many of its properties very well. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, as a whole is fine -I agree, and even bland. But when they do well it's definitely something worth seeing. For example their handling of the Captain America movies have been good. The GotG movies are consistent.. however, I agree the GotG (and new Thor)'s style definitely is not the template I want Star Wars to adopt going forward

I think it's impossible to please the older fans.  I loved the original trilogy, Jedi being the weakest and only good. The new trilogy I liked as a a kid. I've grown to dislike menace, clones is ok, but I still think revenge is just behind 4 n 5. I also quite like 7 but it has flaws. Rouge one I thought was only ok but every time I see it I come to appreciate it a little more.

Personally I hope we have 1 movie every year for at least the next 5-10 years.

im 23 by the way.

Agree.  I went to see "Revenge of the Sith" in theater 9 times.  The most I've ever seen any film in theater by far (no other film more than 3 times).  Granted, I told myself it would be the last time I would be seeing a Star Wars film ever.  But, I also legit think its a great movie.  Palapatine's telling of Darth Plagueis The Wise, his duel with Yoda, and Anakin's duel with Obi Wan are phenomenal Star Wars moments.

I was completely psyched for "The Force Awakens" when I saw the trailer for the first time.  But, when I saw it, I felt it was a complete copy-paste re-telling of the original Star Wars ("A New Hope").  It wasn't a terrible movie, but I can't believe people rank it above "Revenge of the Sith".

They're hyping up this Johnson guy as much as TLJ
Now i can't wait to see the new movie

eh. I have been pretty happy with both SW movies they have put out. Both of which are better than anything since ESB by a longshot.

Could they have been better, sure. But I still enjoyed them a lot.

I love how Jedi is still treated as the black sheep of the OT after all these years, yet it's still light years better than anything SW related that came after it INCLUDING A New Hope Redux, aka The Force Awakens.

Jedi also got tons of crap for introducing annoying side characters (Ewoks) and rehashing the Death Star plotline from the original film, then comes along the new trilogy which does all that yet again, this time with a bigger, badder Death Planet (that can still be destroyed in pretty much the same method) and Porgs!  I haven't even seen the new movie and already I hate those things!

ROTJ is better than ANH, and depending on what day you ask me, is better than ESB.

1. V

2. VI

3. III

4. IV

(Rogue one would go here if applicable)

5. VII

6. I

7. II

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

They are going to run the franchise into the ground. Every movie is going to water it down and down until everyone is going to have franchise fatigue.

It would be nice if they took a break, but as long as these are guaranteed to make a billion+ every year they'll keep making them.

I would like an Old Republic Trilogy because I am starting to get fatigued by Skywalker Saga at this point.
