Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA acquires Respawn Entertainment for as much as $455million

I figured they shut viseral down because their Star Wars game was a andromeda situation, probably comparing respawns Star Wars to viserals was like comparing oblivion to two worlds.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

sad day! but still they getting da money and we getting 3 more games from them

Bye Bye Respawn. I quite liked you when you were around. Now Watch EA turn Titanfall 3 into Destiny 3.

They won't because they have Anthem.

Also why are people saying Rip Respawn?

You really think one try at that 'genre' will be enough for EA? They already hinted they are retooling Viscerals Star Wars game to be a 'game as a service' as well and they have a history of chasing activision by throwing shit at the wall until something sticks....or not. Titanfall is a prime candidate for Lootboxes and it's going to get them.

They tried the same thing with chasing CoD and it didn't work out then, either.

They've got a loooooooooong list of quality studios that they've killed.

Another sellout.

Will be closed within 5 years.

Joke? There is a reason EA was constantly voted as worst company by fans for many years.

Right. So weird that EA keeps making all this money and being successful when all their studios are dead.

Look I'm far from fond of EA, but just because they've closed a lot of studios doesn't mean every single studio they acquire is doomed. Given that Respawn consists of a bunch of ex CoD devs who excel at games heavily built on multiplayer, they're really not likely to be in danger of getting sent to the grim reaper any time soon. To EA, this is like having a second DICE.

See that's the problem. They make so much money, but one failure= closure for their lesser studios. If in a few years Respawn makes a game that sells like BF Hardline, which I didn't think sold too bad, they will just close it down and buy another studio that is doing well.

Around the Network

Generally (especially after what happened with Bioware) I'd say that EA buying a studio is a bad thing.

In this case though, after the excellent Titanfall 2 sold poorly, them buying Respawn is likely the best way to save the franchise. Additionally after playing Titanfall 2 I have high confidence that Respawn can make a truly great Star Wars game.

This is ignoring the fact that EA's appalling scheduling was significant in the poor sales of T2.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

So after leaving Activision because they were suffocated by it they go to EA and now are bought... so it was all about money.

I've seen a couple of people saying T2's sales were bad or poor. I just looked it up, it's sold some 2 and a half million according to VGC. 3 million seems a safe bet if we're including digital. Not sure about PC either.

While these figures aren't what a lot of people expected of Titanfall 2, considering it launched right next to the massive Battlefield 1 I fell it's a stretch to call them poor. A disappointment though? Without a doubt.

Yuck.

TF had a card system completely void of microtransactions.

TF2 MP was not as good imho but had no season pass or map packs but lots of free content with optional cosmetic DLC.

All of that will be gone with EA owning the franchise.

I don't understand Vince Zampella. He left EA and the Medal of Honor franchise because they he was fed up with EA, creating Infinity Ward and going with Activision. He then left Activision, Infinity Ward and the Call of Dury franchise to form Respawn partnering again with EA. And now he's going to let EA buy his studio so they can control him? It's like he doesn't learn!

Oh, well, good luck to the Respawn employees, they'll need it.

And made millions in the process.
