Forums - Gaming Discussion - Doom for Switch Reviews - 78 Metacritic (45 critics)

I know it's a late port on weaker hardware but it's still a solid port. However, game shouldn't be full price IMHO. $60 for a port of a year and a half old game is too much.

I picked up Doom on the PS4 brand new for $15... LAST HOLIDAY SEASON! I'd wait till the price drops before picking it up on Switch.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

In a nutshell, its great if you actually plan to use it in portable mode. But its also a medicore console version.

With that said this may affect how critics feel about it.

The only difference is graphics and fps. How does it make it medicore? It all depends on what you value in a game. I'd take any sub par graphics if the story in the game is awesome over something with leading edge graphics and has no story.

Take COD for example, on Wii to me the game was much more fun to play with he pointer controls even though the graphics were pretty much washed out compared to the other systems. I had the game on xbxo 360 and PS3 and to me yes the graphics were cool, but it just felt like a step backwards in game mechanics.

Well I picked it up. Played it for an hour and I give it two thumbs up because I only got two thumbs lol.

People are quick to say portability is great for DOOM but neglect the price. The game is, in my opinion, 20 dollars too much. I remember when Ultra Street Fighter II was taking hits for being overpriced but at least with that game, I was bound to get 200 hours out of it. With DOOM, I am bound to get just a few hours out of it since I dislike the multiplayer. So, while people are willing to grant DOOM additional points for being portable, please start taking some away because the game is expensive and can be found on competitor consoles for sometimes as low as 1/4 the price.

And that is not to mention it is, at best, 720p and 30 fps.

IGN gave it a 8.5 very good score

The IGN review is sickening. They gave the Switch version a 8.5 vs the 7.1 the game got on other platforms, despite the significantly lower resolution, the many missing graphical effects, half the frame rate at best, and less content. Yeah, it’s Impressive it’s even running on a portable, and really speaks to how far portable gaming has come, but the bias in some of these reviews is utter crap. Really goes to show that either Nintendo just kindof gets a pass, or these reviewers actually are getting paid to push a pro-Switch agenda to convince multiplat gamers to buy a Switch.

It's almost like the game was reviewed by two completely different people.

Oh wait ...

80 on meta now, is pretty good

Hopefully the sales are good as well

You sure as heck can.

Take Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. That was a great game, imo. I would rate it like 7.5-8/10

If that game had come out on the switch instead of the WIi U though, I would rate it probably between an 8-8.5/10

Yes same game sure, but the option of playing it portable is a huge plus. Picking up your switch and popping out a level or two before bed or on the bus, or ect just would mess so well. Portability improves that game.

Now for Doom? IDK. Maybe for some. I don't see me using the portable factor at all if I were to get this game. Doom has always been a sitting on computer chair, lights off, sound up and killing demons to me.

the platform per see shouldn't affect the score at all.

Well, it does. The same game can be rated differently depending on platform. It is about feels. A game can play to the strengths of a platform and feel much better than on another where it doesn't match that well. For instance different games can work differently on VR than on console/PC. For instance may a fast game be working bad on VR, but a slower game might be impressive.
