So the quality of the game is just as expected. No surprise there. I rather just pick up Sonic Colors instead of this though. The only Sonic game I want this decade is Sonic Mania. All the other ones are incredibly passable.

See, this is why you always end up on endless quote chains. There's no need to get personal at every opportunity, and imply that everyone has a grudge against you or something. People don't have an issue with you just because they disagree with something you said, everyone's got their own opinions and might I say yours is a very uncommon one on this topic. |
Really? The only time that has ever happened was with Frigate Shark guy here and Cerebralbore, and Cerebralbore was literally referencing past arguments and making personal attacks on purpose. That's two people ....
Sounds like you're making an educated guess without the education. But I will admit that maybe I'm interpreting Shark's comments too personally. He just seems to do this on a lot ... of threads.
Also late edit but I just realized ... that hasn't happened in literally months ... and it was nothing "personal" just healthy debate ... the "endless quote chains" thing. And also you've done this quite a bit where you try to diagnos why x happens to other users(not that I find it as an attack or anything) What gives? It's honestly odd, your perspective

No it wont. Sonic Forces will sell no less than 2 million copies, but I expect it to be around 3 million. At least half will come from Switch.

I don't know if it'll sell that much, but I agree that the larger percentage will be on Switch. Let's wait and see how it does in the end.
A friend of mine got it today (he's a huge Sonic fan), so I had a chance to try it. I don't enjoy it a whole lot, but I don't think it's that bad. It's, to put it simply, mildly enjoyable. I don't know if that's considered and step forward, but I think they still have a long way to make Sonic great again.
If I have to give it a score to my 1-hour experience (which is not fair, I know, but I'll upgrade my opinion xD) is a 6-6.5/10.

Lol, I watched multiple livestreams of the game (including ones that broke street date a week ago) it took 2-2.5 hours to get through the main game.
And these aren't even speedruns! They're normal people playing it for the first time. Most stages only last 1 minute to 2:30. And they were getting S ranks up the ass. Missions? Come on. What's bullshit is claiming you can get through the main game of Odyssey in 2 hours. They are 2 totally separate game play styles. To insinutate that they can both take equal amounts of time is bullshit. Sonic's fanbase, man. Did I say it took 2 hours to 100% the game? No, quit putting words in my mouth. I gave proof of how long it takes to get through the main game, and how it compares to Odyssey. Odyssey is a beefier game and the movement style is much different. There's not much you can argue at this point. Quit being sour dude. |
I never said anything Odyssey. I never said about a 100%. You are insinuting that an average playthrough of Sonic Forces will be 2 hours. That is not true. I have been playing Forces to day for about 3 hours and I am only on Level 13. I cant see your videos due to being on a phone but the idea is not that Sonic Forces CANT be completely in 2 hours but will but average player wont. Based on early getters a average playthrough is 4-5 hours. Final Fantasy 9 can be completely quite confidenly in under 20 hours (hell you get Excalibur 2 for doing it under 10), but should that be considered for average play length? No most will beat it at the average 40.

Honestly, I don't think Mania is the way to push the franchise forward. Sure, sometimes you need a look into the past. But Mania is basically a retreat of old Sonic games, which actually doesn't bring anything new to the table. So I'd say that they need to keep the things that worked in previous Sonic games, and find new gameplay mechanics which push the franchise forward. They really, really have problems with this. They tried a lot of things in the last few years and I wouldn't say that anything quite worked spectacularly, though some games were enjoyable.

Exactly. Thats the problem with fans; they only know how to paste and copy the best ideas that worked in previous games.
if it was up to fans we have:
Devil May Cry 3 version 127
Final Fantasy 6/7 version 147
Street Fighter 2 version 190
oh
and Sonic Mania which did absolutely nothting to advance the classic series or the franchise forward as whole. It introduced nothing not already done somehwere else. Sonic Mania is the kinda game a fan would produce. Period.

Aha, I actually agree with this. Mania is a nice one-off to please fans of the 2D era, and make a game part of the fandom was looking for. Now, I wouldn't say that continuing with the Mania formula forever is the way to go. Unless they manage to advance the franchise forward using the Mania formula as the background, but Mania itself did absolutely nothing new. I find it a more solid game than Forces (at least what I've played of it), because.... well, it basically repeats the same formula and a lot of scenarios, so what could possibly go wrong? But my final thoughts were... Oookay, so what's new about Sonic? Same old, same old?
I'm a big fan of platformers (specially Mario, that pretty much explains my avatar XD). And I really like my ration of, sometimes, 2D old-school Mario games. Which, yeah, they're pretty solid experiences. But I imagine a world in with just these Marios are released, and I'll probably grow tired of them. Sonic Team must keep trying. It's hard to convince everyone, but I see that at least some of the fans are pleased about the results. I think they were close with Generations, which is a good game. And I think what's best in old-school Sonic games are the level design, which have their ration of exploration, platforming and speed. So, well, maybe they might look into the past a bit but move forward. And, honestly, I truly feel that they tried in Forces.
