I was taught 7. Though Antarctica shouldn't be a continent since it is just a giant ice cube. Also Europe shouldn't be a continent . You Europeans think you are so special that you needed your own continent to call your own?

It's still weird to me how Europe and Asia are generally considered to be 2 seperate continents when they're connected by a huge land mass (unlike say, Africa and Asia, which are connected through a very tiny landmass through Sinai and Israel).

I mean, most of Europe's criteria to be considered a seperate continent apply to the Middle East, India, China, etc.

All I see are a bunch of islands. So you could say it is a giant ice cube with some rocks under it. If this is a continent then Greenland would like to apply continent citizenship. 

Also Europe is just a big peninsula. So not special.

Of course it can be subdivided (Middle East, Central America, etc.) or broadened (Oceania, Eurasia)

This conversation reminds me of the continents song we learned back in kindergarten. Yes man, there are 7 (unless my kindergarten teacher was wrong :P), though I guess some decide to combine landmasses or whatever, but the answer has always been 7 for me.
