Zarkho said: You mention "Inmigration background" as if it was something negative, souspicious, something to care about in terms of security. Not sure if it's racist, but definitly there is something subtly xenophobous there. And you mention you're not paranoid, but then you narrate how you take "security measures" oftenly to avoid possible dangers. Honestly, you're right when you say the media has placed dangerous stereotipes and fears in people's minds. Statistically, you're more likely to die in a traffick accident than on a terrorist attack. If you're in the US you're thousands of times more likely to die killed by gunshots by a US citizen than by a terrorist attack with bombs and stuff. You should try to stop worrying about that security concerns, watch less TV and enjoy life without preoccupations ;) |
As luck would have it my way of enjoying life usually means to stay as far away from other people as possible, so I'm not concerned on that front. But my lifestyle also leads to the fact that my contact with other people is very limited and experiences are isolated. If I had people with immigrant background in my inner circle of friends I might have a stronger resistance against influence of otherwise negative experiences.
The thing I mentioned with people with immigration background were actual negative experiences I had with them throughout my life including a late night unprovoked violent ambush and robbery. Having that in mind I think it's natural to be more cautious. I've been stung enough by wasps in my life to know to avoid all of them before politely inquiring if they have the actual intention of stinging me.
Being open and welcoming every single human being into your life might be a nice thing to do but it's not worth it or necessary for my personal lifestyle. I'm fine with keeping my distance and not harming anyone, but I think it would be foolish to assume that the people around me have the same disposition.
