This review is long overdue, but I wanted to hold off as more features were added to the game. Based on things they’ve added, such as weather, fog, visual updates, I think I can clearly get a good picture on how this game is after playing it as many hours as I did.

Overall, it is a rather unique game in the world of video games. I’ve always wanted to have a game where you could have a massive free for all based on random weapons (though personally, if we were all dropped with laser swords from Halo, that would be pretty awesome too), and that desire only increased after books/movies came out in recent years that did these setups in a cool way (Hunger games, for example, was nonstop adrenaline).

Visually, this isn’t by any means a stunning game, nor is the art style. However, I understand having this realistic art style makes blending in easier and camo becomes incredibly important with the environment you’re in.

There is no story and, unlike a game like Destiny or Overwatch where you have tons of story tidbits you can discover, there really is nothing of the sort here. I understand this hasn’t been fully released and if this changes, I will gladly update this review at a later date, but as of now the only points they get for story are the overall setup and posters that give you an indication of what’s going on. As I have done with my reviews as of late, I will include a story based review score (the one I count) and a score that doesn’t take story into consideration (for those of you that don’t care about story).

The game is an absolute blast to play if you like a raised heartbeat, which I had most of the first 10-20 hours of playing it. The music isn’t really that great at the beginning, but I actually appreciate there is really no dramatic music being played during the gameplay, as you need to hear things like I’ve never needed to before in a video game, especially during fog or thunderstorm maps. I will say the controls can be incredibly glitch, especially on those rain maps (doors opening and closing as you hit E more than once, getting stuck in random rocks/trees, etc).

The multiplayer is addicting, and now there are maps of people doing weird rules in case that’s your cup of tea (race around the island, only certain weapons or tier equipment, etc). Overall, a fun game.

* Means it was more fun than the score indicates. Scores judge the overall quality of the game (how fun it is only counts for 15% in my reviews)

NR means Not Recommended based on inappropriateness.

^Charm is rewarded to games that have an undefinable quality to them that makes them amazing and have high replayability value.

What kind of rating system is this? Lol.

My own, been doing it for years cause I think a little differently than most review personalities. Instead of just doing judgement call ranking, I make mine based on points in each category. So even if I "loved" a game, it can still overall get a bad review if it did poorly in various categories.

It makes no sense though. It discriminates against games that don't have a story and focus on multiplayer ... even if that's the point of the game

What is so original about it? Last man standing, massive maps, perma death, lots of players, all been done before. So it's just the random spawns and circle of death?

The game is fun because it's popular. It's popular because it's fun. Self reinforcing cycle. It's quick to find a match, always other people to play against. And that randomness keeps it interesting. 2,557,336 24 hour peak concurrent players today.

It does make sense, you just don't agree with it (which is fine). This is what is important to me. I understand this is a minority view, but story is the most important. There are others who feel this way based on the dozens of past reviews I've put on this website, though I know we are the minority. I wanted to offer a different perspective. However, as I mentioned in the review, I include a score that shows what it is without taking story into consideration, which was in the 70s for this game.

Sure, large maps free for all has, but nothing this large, with only one death allowed, with the ability to win by killing people or hiding in amazing places. Never has there been this much freedom before in a shooter, at least in my experience.

Yeah actually, I guess you are right. Sorry, I just found it odd. I prefer these "subjective" reviews over having the same scores and review processes circle-jerked a million times. So I guess I support this kind of stuff, even when it alienates me

Yey! Thanks! lol

But don't feel alienated! Most reviews don't care about story like I do (I'm alienated, so I made these :). And you've got the other score you can look at (It's a C quality game based on that score).
