Forums - Sales Discussion - XBOXONE X preorders at EB Games Australia estimated at 20,000

Hi all,

Got an opportunity to chat with an EB Games employee at the Penrith Plaza outlet (Western Sydney, Australia) on Thursday. During my questioning around xboxone x preorders I was surprised to discover that the preorders for the X1X is sitting at around 20,000 across all EB outlets in Australia,- according to the employee.  If you consider that EB Games makes up aprox 1/3 of the entire australian gaming market, that could by very rough estimates project preorders to around 60,000 for the entire country of 25 million people or so. We could use this figure as some kind of yardstick for say developed western countries like the U.S, U.K, Aus, NZ and Canada and could apply the crude fraction of say 0.0024 (or 0.24 percent) thus providing an estimate for these countries in total. UK 65 Million, USA 323 Million, Canada 36 Million, Australia 25 Million, NZ 5 Million = 454 Million X 0.0024 = 1.09 Million for these standard western countries. I know this is an entirely crude approach for working out estimates for theses set of countries.  The reason why I group these countries together is that I believe they have very similar buying patterns and gaming taste when it comes to consoles. Again guys, very crude methodology here but nonetheless interesting with some insight hopefully and just for a bit of fun! Cheers ... what do think?

Hi 3sexty, this is quite interesting.

Proud to be a Californian.

Not sure what to make of that information...

But I'd imagine it could sell a couple million this holiday.

Don't see that happening. From my understanding they are only planning on shipping 1 million by year's end.

It took around half a year for the PS4 Pro to reach about 2 million units (20% of the sold PS4 consoles since the Pro launch)... I doubt that the Xbox One X will do better with a higher price tag.

Are this numbers good?I'm not familiar with the australian demand.

Looking at the demand right now I would not be suprised if the Xbox One X outsells the PS4 Pro.

Obviously the PS4 pro is only 1/5th of the sales of the PS4 brand I think and the Xbox One S will never outsell the PS4 but just looking at reviews, interest and also on who I know that are picking it up the Xbox one X is concidered the "better" 4k console and people with 4k television who already own a PS4 are quite interested.

Anyway, only time will tell but I do think the Xbox One X has a chance to suprise and reach that 2 milion mark after 3-4 months on the market
