Forums - Sales Discussion - X360 yearly sales=PS3 yearly sales

Hmm, that's interesting. I can't wait to see what happens this year with all of these games coming out.

Consider the situation the PS3 was in a year ago. It was getting pummeled by the 360 week to week. The PS3 has improved significantly year-over-year, and much more than the Xbox 360 has.

Sony clearly has the momentum, and for the next fiscal year I wouldn't be surprised if the sales were 11m for the PS3 compared to 8.5m for the 360.

PS3 did get a big boost from its European launch.. what was it? 400,000 in one month?

^No that was March '07

those numbers are not included

It's really surprising considering how much the PS2 outsold the Xbox by. The fact that sales of the 360 and PS3 are so close and people think it's an amazing victory for Sony shows just how far expectations for the Playstation brand have fallen since the PS2.

There was a time when if you told someone that an Xbox brand console would keep up with a Playstation brand one for even a year people would have had good laughs over it. I guess those days are over.

It was March 23rd, 2007 right?  Doesn't the first month of it's launch include a few weeks in April?

Nothing I hate more than people that remind you of this after they hear about the PS3 doing well.  I understand that expectations were high after the PS2, but it's a new generation.  Not many people expected the Wii to sell like space heaters in Antarctica, but that doesn't mean everytime we look at it's sales we should comment on the surprise.  It's just an attempt to marganalize the accomplishments of the PS3.

It's just a last resort used by Xbox fanboys.

Yes but I believe the360 didn't sell really bad, at least not as bad as some are making it sound.

Not sure what you're getting at Sleep, but I think it sucks that PS3 fans jump on this as another sign that the 360 is in "dire straights". Personally I think both platforms are doing well, both are selling more than last year. Certainly the PS3 had a bigger jump from last year, but that doesn't make the 360's accomplishments any less in my eyes. I guess it just sucks that people actually take the competition of these companies so personally. IT's fantastic that the PS3 is outselling the 360, and I'm happy for it, but don't rub it in the 360 fans' faces. Just be happy for your own favorite console.
