Scores are only relative to the franchise, not to games in general.

1. Galaxy 2 - 10.0
2. Galaxy 1 - 9.9
3. Odyssey - 9.6
4. Mario 3D World - 9.1
5. Mario 64 - 8.0
6. Mario 3D Land - 6.0
7. Sunshine - 2.0

Mario 64 would probably be lower, but I respect what it did for 3D gaming, the pioneering step. I actually don’t like 64 very much these days because I find the directional controls extremely frustrating compared to more recent 3D games. It was early in 3D gaming, they hadn’t got it down yet.

Odyssey has done a huge amount of good new things, but I found it didn’t go far enough, have as much content as it could have had, and the core platforming gameplay feels a bit of a step backward from the Galaxy games, it still feels in the realm of 3D World.

Looking for a Galaxy 3, one that takes all of the advancements of Odyssey, adds even more, and put it into the Galaxy universe... with a very in depth story involving Rosalina!

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It would probably be the Galaxy titles (They're too close to pick one). I can't deny how great Odyssey has been, but there's just sense of grander scale and creativity in the Galaxy titles.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

I don't like to rank games that I haven't finished yet, but I'll probably have to make an exception here. Odyssey has basically taken what I enjoyed about Galaxy and 64/Sunshine and found a way to combine them.

I still haven't played 3D World though, and I got burnt on Galaxy 2 midway into the game, but of the ones I've played I'd probably rank them:

Odyssey > Galaxy > Sunshine > 64 > 3D Land

I loved Mario 3D Land, due to the 4 playable characters, the cat suit, etc.

However, I feel like with ALL of the little Mario 2 nods it had, those 4 characters, another world run by fairy looking folk, the cherry power up, being able to pick up and throw things, etc.....that they didn't go hard enough. What I personally would have LOVED, is if they had just gone full on Mario 2, made the land you go to Subcon, put all of the old Mario 2 enemies (Shyguys, Sniffits, Pidgets, Ninjis, etc.) in the game, including bosses like Mouser, Triclyde and Fryguy (and WART goddammit). To me, that would have put a GOOD game over the top, and made it more memorable. Instead, it's just Bowser again, except this time he wears a cat suit and drives a car.

The best all around 3D Mario I've yet played, is Mario Galaxy 1. That experience, for 2007, even on Wii hardware, that was one of the prettiest and most innovative games of that entire gen, hands down. In fact I wish they would have continued using that more "organic" art style for 3D World and Odyssey. I wouldn't say I LOVED the gravity/planet physics deal, but it was neat at times, and certainly innovative. The game was just a lot of fun, with some great boss battles, great music, great controls (outside of Luigi's slippery ass), etc.

I did not, however, honestly care all that much for Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's an okay game, don't get me wrong. Just felt like a wasted one. It was essentially Mario Galaxy: Lost Levels, with some harder/more fucked up level designs, and a half-working-correctly Yoshi thrown in because why not. Personally, I liked Mario Galaxy 1 a LOT better. And for that matter, playing the Mario 64 remade level in Galaxy 2, just made me wish that instead of giving us Galaxy 2, they had given us a FULL Mario 64 remake with the Galaxy engine like that. I would have been far more excited for that, and likely enjoyed it more.

Galaxy 3 for Switch built on Odyssey's engine would be freaking amazing.

If we don't get Galaxy 3, I at least want a complete HD remake (not remaster) of 1 and 2 for Switch. Those games would look absolutely glorious on Odyssey's engine.

After getting to the post game, Odyssey solidly.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

A galaxy game with the creativity of the setting seen in Odyssey with larger galaxies to enhance the exploration aspect would be pretty fantastic.  Still cpuld be more course based, but I think pulling in some of Odyssey's wackiness and exploration elements would make it a more distinct successor to 1 and 2 than 2 was to 1.

On the whole though, I prefer Odyssey, especially after the endingvand now going through the post game.  So an Odyssey 2 would also be fantastic.  Not like we couldn't have another globetrotting adventure just with new locations.  Still plenty of cultures and aesthetics to tap into.

My main issue with Galaxy 2, great game though it was, was that it felt more like an expansion than its own game. Little things like having a world map instead of a proper hub and having practically the exact same setup as the first game just made it feel less fleshed out.

A theoretical Galaxy 3 would hopefully address these quibbles.

I voted for Galaxy...
Few games come close to its charm...
But if you ask me tomorrow, I might say SM64...
And while I'm not super far into Odyssey, I can tell it will be one of my favorites...

Have a nice day...
