Not even close to a failure. Assuming there are 2 million PS4s in shelves, then the PS4 has sold through 65.5 million by the end of September. Subract 53.4m from that, the PS4 has sold 12.1m by the end of September. Considering that the Pro makes up about 20% of total PS4 sales ever since it launched, the Pro sold about 2.42m units.

Compared to the XB1, VGC has it selling around 3.1m by the week of Sept 16. I think it has sold less than that amount based on EA and IHS's estimates, and US/WW ratios. I have it selling between 2.15m - 2.54m up to the end of September. For the sake of argument, let's pretend VGC has it right. The Pro has sold 78% of the XB1's YTD sales so far this year.

I'm not neccessarily talking about sales. The console fails to push the needls forward in anyway. It really has no point to exist in my eyes.

over 2.5 M gamers  didn't think like you.

And what does that say about the XB1 if we are to go by your standard? (And I was being charitable in the XB1's direction)

This makes me wonder about the potential sales of a 2D Mario game with similar production values.

Yeah. 2D mario with similar budget maybe become the real monster in sales.

"More than 2.6M," huh? I guess that implies "less than 2.7M" as well. That means the Switch had to have sold at least 276k but no more than 375k in October.

Weren’t the sales in the US reportedly at just above 2m at the end of September? Meaning the absolute max for October sales would be around 600k?

That was at the end of August. Apparently, the Switch sold 315k in September, plus or minus a few thousand.

Was it? I thought that statement was made for September NPD?

This is the same person who deemed the PS4 Pro a failure. His perspective on sales tend to be very questionable.

Ps4 pro could be considered a failure, depending on how you look at it.

everything could be considered a failure depending on how you look at it.

Call me crazy but I was expecting this nintendo number to be more. I pegged it to be selling at around 350k-400k/month since its launch in the US.

In that case, the Switch in October should be 450k to 550k, depending on how far past 2mil it was.

Thanks for this link. I'm going to update the link and mention that the 2m figure is as of the end of September.
